The Organizational Structure of Bridgestone Corporation
Bridgestone Corporation is a functional organizational, started in 1931in Japan by founder Shojiro Ishibashi, using an English translation of his surname for the name of the company.
As Japan's automobile industry grew, The Bridgestone Group expanded its business to become Japan's largest tire manufacturer. The company also actively expanded overseas, particularly in Asia. In 1988, the company acquired The Firestone Tire & Rubber Company, a well respected global corporation with a venerable history of its own in America. This transformed Bridgestone into one of the world's largest tire and rubber companies, and created a global team dedicated to serving customers worldwide with the highest level of quality, service, and technology.
Bridgestone Corporation is a flat divisional organization with geographic regions that only one CEO. Bridgestone has 143,124 employees and 16,019 non-consolidated employees; they have a board of directors which the CEO is a representative board member. They have plants in 25 countries worldwide. Bridgestone is dedicated to planning, manufacturing, sale, installation, lease, repair, and maintenance of the equipment and facilities related to tires, tubes for automobiles as well industrial general rubber products. Materials of natural rubber, synthetic rubber, synthetic fiber, synthetic resins, chemicals, ceramics, metals, liquefied gases, and those processed goods, materials for public works, and construction, marine structures, and machines for prevention of environmental pollution. Industrial machines, and equipment, such as machines and facilities for manufacturing rubber, synthetic fiber products and machines and facilities for metal processing,
Electric machines, and equipment: machines for communication, audio, visual devices, electric battery, measuring tools, and tools for industrial robots. Bicycles and other equipment, tools for transportation, and other related goods. Bedding, furniture, stationery, and office supplies, sporting goods, instruments, and tools for promoting health. Planning, execution, supervision, and contracting of construction and engineering works; Lease, purchase, sale, of agency business, and maintenance of real estate. Investigation, project, planning, supervision, and contracting related to community development, urban development, gardening, and land development, and utilization. Project related to information processing, information communication, and providing information, production, sale of software related to educational project for the training and development of employees. Management consultant business for the travel agency business, and management of hotels and sports facilities. Sale and intermediary for the sale of membership of golf clubs, membership of hotels, sports facilities attached to non-life insurance agency business, and canvassing for life insurance policies. Dispatch of supporting stuff like maintenance businesses for automobiles, lease, and rental business and financial business.
Advertising, printing, publishing business, sale of clothing, foods, and daily necessities. Processing of industrial wastes and other general waste matters. Warehousing business and freight forwarding, and and businesses incidental or related to any of the business specified under the foregoing items.
Divisional organization the teams are organize in set of divisions, in which each division corresponds to product or services provided by the organization. Each division has its own set of functional units that includes research, manufacturing, marketing, and completely self-contained. Divisional organization is more skills along the product business, and lesser in core technical.
Functional organization is groups base on common functions from the bottom of the pile to the top. Functional units such as engineering, market, finance, human resources is what makes functional organization work. They are control and coordinated from the top level management. Functional organization is what most businesses use to design and have evolved from the concept of high specialization, high control framework of manufacturing organizations.
Functional organization is more technical-oriented and less product or business oriented, and tuned toward high efficiency, more technical, and less product business-oriented. They are skill in taking decisions in taking decisions in functional areas, mostly weak in product business plans, market study, and product release management. If the organization hierarchy at lowest does get divided along product lines, by creating deeper hierarchies.
Bridgestone‘s transportation sector has a significant impact on the environment, particularly in terms of resource use and CO2 emissions. The Bridgestone Group is developing a number of technologies that can be applied throughout the value chain, from raw materials to finished products. One goal of these initiatives is to achieve the usage of 100% sustainable materials by leveraging the 3R’s (reduce, reuse, and recycle) technologies that diversify resources use and utilize renewable resources as well as retread technologies. In addition, the Group is pursuing the development of future tire technologies, such as those that reduce CO2 emissions through improved fuel efficiency. By creating ideal tires using these technologies, Bridgestone Group will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
Bridgestone has created a process to implement quickly management policies and develop superior human resources to optimize its resources company-wide and foster the growth of the Bridgestone group. The company is utilizing the Global-Manufacturing Education Center (G-MEC) to train employees involved in the all areas of manufacturing including, education experts at its training centers in each region around the world to enhance the local human resources activities.
They focus on three specific areas in operations ecological conservation, which they are consistently implement and supports ecosystem conservation, research, and educational activities around the world. Resource conservation achieving zero waste to landfill status globally. CO2 emissions reduction are committed to an aggressive goal to reduce emission from Bridgestone’s total operations such as raw materials, component procurement, manufacturing, and logistics by 35% by 2020. As of 2011 Bridgestone has reduce CO2 emissions per sales by 14%.
Bridgestone is working to expand their product and service offerings to help their customers reduce their environment impact. Specific projects include expanding their retread tire solution business in the global market and its associated manufacturing lines, and launching COOLSAFE, a heat-shielding film for architectural glass. By offering these products and services, they are working with customers to achieve a society founded on ecological conservation, resource conservation, and the reduction of CO2 emissions.
Marketing for Bridgestone has incorporated the IBM eServer zSeries 900, which is a database servers connect to 1700 client PC’s in the head office, its 50 distribution outlets, its 500 sales officers throughout the company, and to integrate its infrastructure globally.
Bridgestone Corporation has developed a new revolutionary printing technology for tires. Bridgestone’s advanced tire printing technology consist of the layer of sidewalls of the tire, inks creative showcase of tires while also protecting environmental concerns such as fuel efficiency. This new design of tires with different colors, and customers can even have their name on the walls of the tires in different languages, original customer designs, or photographs could be printed on tire sidewalls and later removed or changed if a customer chooses.,
