The meal I chose to research is the poutine. The origins of the poutines name “is commonly believed to have originated from the English word pudding (or as it were in French, pouding) used to describe a mixture, typically messy, of various foods.” (The Canadian Encyclopedia). The poutine’s origins has been debated in which different parts of the dish was developed or used in different stages at different points in time. “In Warwick (near Victoriaville, QC), Fernand Lachance of Café Ideal (later renamed Le Lutin qui rit) has said that he first added curds to fries at the request of Eddy Lainesse, a regular customer, in 1957” (The Canadian Encyclopedia). It is debated that Fernand was the original creator as he incorporated using gravy to keep the fries warm for a long duration of time. …show more content…
He had been serving fries in a special sauce since 1958, in a dish he called patate-sauce.” (The Canadian Encyclopedia). It has also been debated that Jean-Paul is the original creator as he began to incorporate cheese curds with the fries he served. Poutine is commonly found and prepared anywhere from fine dining to fast food chains such as burger king, Wendy’s, and MacDonald’s. Aside from fine dining and fast food chains poutines are also made by restaurant who specialize in poutines such as: Smoke’s Poutinerie and Poutini's House of Poutine. As such poutine has generally been seen as a dish that can be served in a multitude of different and unique ways. Continuing on poutine is generally consumed with the use of a fork. I believe that majority of poutines are consumed at places that specialize in poutine, although many poutines are consumed at local fast food restaurants such as burger king and McDonalds.
