Pre-historic humanity developed in two main phases, the Paleolithic period, the Mesolithic period and the Neolithic period. The Paleolithic period was the most prolonged period in the pre-history of humanity. It begins when humans start using simple stone tools around 2.5 million years ago. A dominant characteristic of societies at this time was their nomadic way of life.
