...Edgecombe Avenue Parking: A Need for Additional Legal Parking Spaces XXXXXXX M O’N Edgecombe Avenue Parking: A Need for Additional Legal Parking Spaces With the population of the area growing each year and the removal of a large parking garage, our community is experiencing a parking shortage. The east side of Edgecombe Avenue between 155th & 150th Streets (a one way street) is the only area in the neighborhood that does not allow parking. The purpose of this paper is to show that Community Board 9’s Transportation Committee should approve a change so that parking is permitted on both sides of the street. The current parking restrictions have created an undue burden on the residents, increase the risk to personal safety and with the upcoming Sugar Hill Project parking will become even more problematic in the neighborhood. Parking on the east side of the street was briefly allowed for a few months back in 2009 but was subsequently revoked. The decision was made at a community board meeting that was not fully communicated to the residents. The board should reconsider since several factors have changed in the past two years and not all viewpoints were expressed at the 2009 meeting. Every other street in the surrounding area permits parking on both sides. There are no city ordinances published regarding this issue. Josh Orzeck, the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Community Board Liaison stated “In order to make a change, the residents must make a...

...In my opinion, people need to be more considerate, in every aspect of the word. More specifically and the topic I want to focus more on is that people should avoid taking the handicap parking spaces for granted. Some people absolutely need this option to limit the amount of distance they have to cover to get to their destination. So people need to avoid taking the spaces because they’ll be right back, or no one needs to park here, or whatever reason they can concoct to justify their decision. The only exception of course is if you have a state issued handicap sticker or license plate. Without either these two things it should be off limits to you. What some people do to cheat the system is to drive handicap relatives’ vehicles to reap the rewards of a closer parking spot. This is another case where people are just flat out rude. People with this option available to them, should do the honorable thing. Working at King Soopers, there are a lot of different people that come through the store. Some elderly people take advantage of their stickers and use these parking spaces in order to have a more efficient shopping experience. Which is the way it should be. There are some unfortunate instances where some people expect to be in and out quickly, but don’t respect that there might be someone else trying to use the spot. There was one instance where an older lady in a wheelchair had to park further away from Kings because a car was in the last available handicap spot without state...

...Have you ever gone to a supermarket or mall, and driven around the lot several times looking for a parking space? Each time you pass the front of the building you see all of those handicapped parking spaces that are not being used and you may think to yourself, “I need a special parking space!” Recently, this has become a hot topic among pregnant women. In several states including: Texas, Mississippi, Vermont, and Georgia, the legislature has attempted to pass a bill that would amend the standards, already set forth for disabled parking permits, by including pregnant women. The legislation would allow pregnant women to apply for and receive a temporary disabled parking placard that would enable them to park, in any handicapped parking space available, for up to two months after their child is born. This brings forth the question of whether or not pregnancy is a disability. Proponents for this type of bill argue that pregnant women “should be extended the courtesy of handicapped parking privileges,” (http://stork.glokraemer.com). Their reasons vary, but basically it comes down to convenience. Pregnant woman don’t want to walk the extra hundred feet because they are tired. If they have other children while pregnant it is easier for them to only walk thirty-five feet to the store while holding a toddler’s hand and carrying the extra weight of pregnancy. What they fail to realize is that once they get into the store they are going to walk around shopping while holding their...

...buffet too help determine the size of the venue I require. Location: Making sure the location is easily accessible for the guest, putting in mind there are parking spaces, good transport links and accommodation nearby worked for me. Availability: Identifying several possible dates for the party, putting in mind if it was to be held at the weekend, some venues book up very far in advance, if I was working to a tight time scale I may to consider a week day. Budget= The budget would have a major impact on narrowing down a short list of venues, knowing what the budget is helps not to overstretch oneself on the venue in an effort to impress people, then find you have little left in the kitty to actually make the experience enjoyable for your guest, at this stage I wouldn’t know what the final costs one going to be but the venue will be able to give a rough picture figure per head for certain elements. It was after using the above to narrow the venues down to three that I took a further step to pay the venue a visit to look at their facilities, function spaces and overall appearance. After my visit to the 3 venue I question I was able to make my decision after considering the following. Event Space: Venue A and Venue B, from the reception area, through to the function suite, toilets and other facilities, e.g. bar, music space worked...

[Reword to make sentence flow better] You can smell the peanuts and see the floor covered with peanut hulls. You have a choice of sitting at a table, a booth or sitting at the bar. Logan’s Roadhouse is filled with the mixed aromas of menu choices being prepared. You are escorted to the seating area you have chosen. However, to our surprise the entrees arrived before appetizers and I just had a gut feeling that everything would be downhill from here on and believe me it The correct side orders were not with the correct main dish, everyone had ordered steaks; but not the same kind of steak nor were they to be cooked to the same degree. The worst problem was with my mothers’ order, which was a T-bone steak to be cooked well-done (no one else ordered a T-bone) [unnecessary/irrelevant] and her order came back rare. As the saying goes, “a picture is worth a thousand words”, you should have seen my mother’s facial expression when she inserted her knife into her steak and blood oozed out; she was literally seething with fury and ready to walk out and E-mail the corporate office that night. The waitress was very apologetic and my mother was convinced to send the order back. The steak was returned charred on the outside and” medium rare” on the...

...look towards alternative investments that are capable of hedging risk while yielding a more than reasonable return. One alternative real estate investment that has attracted investors for many years in the United States is the commercial parking industry. Commercial parking as an investment is virtually a recession proof investment due to the nature of its industry. Although the industry demand is driven by the occupancy rates of commercial real estate, the need for parking will always exist as long as there are cities that breed jobs and suburbs that house workers. From the perspective of a conservative investor, investments that are safe from risk and show promise for moderate financial growth are generally very appealing. In terms of growth, the output of US parking lot and garage management is forecasted to grow at an annual compounded rate of 2 percent per year between 2012 and 2015 after a surprising growth of 5% in 2011. (First Research, 2012) Although these numbers sound relatively general compared to other industries, the growth rate of the commercial parking industry shows promise for the future. We now will look further into the details of the commercial parking industry and explore many of the essentials that prove the commercial parking industry to...

...Proposal to Change Resident Parking Requirements Iris Bundy Strayer University Online ENG 315: Professional Communication Professor Dennis McGeehan November 22, 2015 Dear Councilmember Bowser: Enclosed is a copy of my justification report regarding the restriction and enforcement of residential parking in my Ward 4 zone? The lack of enforcement has allowed nonresidents to park without restriction or penalties in the areas allotted for residents of this zone. The residents of Ward 4 are interested in changing the parking stipulations from 2 hour nonresidential parking to residential only parking. The research indicates an overwhelming need to eliminate residents having to compete with neighborhood business for the limited parking spaces. Placing the restrictions will ensure that the residents can find reasonable parking spaces at night and especially on weekends. This report details the benefits to the residence of Ward 4 and Webster Street. It also addresses the concern of residences recent anxiety in dealing with the parking situation. The changes will provide a sense of safety while entering and exiting our neighborhood. . If you have any questions about this report, you may contact me at the following phone number xxx-xxx-xxxx. ...SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS SPECIFICATION RFID Parking Garage Anthony Nichols Matthew Nichols 1.0 Introduction Finding parking spaces for automobiles and motorcycles can a problematic venture due to limited space and time, while the selling of parking spaces is potential lucrative endeavor. Currently, most large parking garages, including airport parking, use a ticketing system in which users get a time-stamped ticket when entering the structure and pay a time relative fee when exiting. The transmission of these disposable tickets is a time inefficient process susceptible to error. These tickets can easily be lost, and with the lost tickets, the entire process disoriented. The manual payment process can also be time consuming when traffic is at a high rate. An RFID parking system would improve this by allowing the user to interact with the parking area with an RFID card at the entrance and exit of the parking area. An RFID parking system would also allow the user to keep an account on which the system would keep track of financial transactions. This would reduce the amount of time the user must interact with the system and increase the security of the user. A new system to allow ease of use and increased security of parking areas is needed 1. Goals and objectives • To provide individuals who require a parking area with a system that is efficient and easy to use. • To provide individuals with a system that accounts for the length of each visit and...
