The Passamaquoddy tribe has a huge historical impact. The people of the Passamaquoddy were one of the first to have an interaction with the European people. Passamaquoddy lives on the coast of Maine with attracted many European fishermen to their land. Then come the Micmacs 1615 and an epidemic in 1617 which killed about 75% of the Passamaquoddy population. The rest of the Passamaquoddy people started fur trading with French and English. This then leads to the beaver wars.After the beaver wars came to the drummer war. The drummer war was an argument over the land. In 1760 they finally lost all the lands to the Europeans. The Passamaquoddy were a great help to the Americans in the Revolutionary Wars to gain their land back but the Passamaquoddy continued to lose land. Finally, after decades of fighting and treaties, they finally filed a lawsuit in the 1960s for the Maine land. They won and received their Maine land back and received 81.5 million for settlement. The men of the Passamaquoddy usually wore leggings and wore breechcloth. A breechcloth is a rectangularly shaped clothing made with either animal fur or deerskin. Passamaquoddy tribe adopted blouses and jackets form the European style. They’d usually decorate their jacket and blouses with fancy Indian beadwork. Instead of wearing bonnet as headdresses. The people of Passamaquoddy wore a headband with feathers. They also wore pointed caps and wore moccasins on their feet.
