For my art review essay, I decided to go to my college campus in Covington, Tennessee. Upon entering the recently built library building, one is greeted with a display of pottery by G. Gainer and selections of photographs by Christy Hunter. The building is beautiful, but, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the art inside. The pottery by Gainer is, at best, plain and dull. The photographs are also uninteresting and out of place except for a rare few that capture the beauty of various flowers. I feel like these displays were bought because they were probably inexpensive, something that the building itself most definitely was not. Continuing, one will see more sculptures by Paul Bierman. These selections of pottery look much more professional and impressive compared to the previous ones. Farther back one will discover a variety of paintings available for purchase, though not in any means of the word “cheap”. These paintings by Charles Taylor P. are very realistic and complex, resulting in a very professional look.
As for themes, the sculptures are mainly plates and other decorative pieces, while the photographs depict local buildings and scenes that are easily recognizable to anyone who has lived in the area for a few years. The paintings and…show more content… The displays are out of the way but can be clearly seen and everything is clean and well-taken care of. The idea presents itself decent enough; to look good, but not to be too much in the way. Maybe I’m being too harsh on these artists. After all, the library is more for books and it is not an art show in any way. The paintings, however, fit in and look professional. Regardless of the amateur pottery and sculptures, the art is still nice to look at. This art appreciation class has taught me to value art even though it may not be interesting or appealing to me. I had not even noticed the art very much before taking this class, and I’ve been there for a full
