In the book In Cold blood Perry Smith is a robber on parole from the Kansas State Penitentiary, a man who lies about killing a man just to impress. He's had an abusive childhood with an alcoholic mother who choked on her own vomit, and a father who wouldn't send him to school. Two of his siblings committed suicide and his only sister is afraid of him. His only friendship is with an Indian logger, have been with fellow convicts, and it's one of these relationships that ultimately gets him involved in a brutal murder. His childhood traumas have left him with some childlike behaviors, he still wets the bed and sucks his thumb when he cries in his sleep.

According to the book letters from his father to the Parole Board, and letters from his sister. Perrys attributes are filled with constant violence and neglect. Up until he was five, his parents were traveling rodeo performers. The family led a pretty marginal existence, always on the move and often lived in a broken-down trailer on "mush and Hershey Kisses and condensed milk" (pg.171). But he was a pretty happy kid until his father started to beat his mother. Perry saw and heard his mother "entertaining" a series of men. She eventually took her kids to San Francisco, where Perry was getting into lots of trouble. He however blames it on having “no rule or discipline, or anyone to show me right from wrong" (pg.54). He ended up in a series of orphanages and Salvation Army homes, where he got beaten for wetting the

Governor Rick Perry

...2015 Special Project #1 Governor Rick Perry gave a speech in 2009 regarding the issues Texas was facing. Governor Perry was extremely confident throughout his speech. During Perry’s speech, He was constantly referring back to the Texas Constitution. Perry is a right winged man who takes extreme pride in his state. At the end of his main point, Perry stated “This is how Texans have always been, very about themselves,” which is a good thing. Each state should put its foundations before everything else. The 10th Amendment subject has been debated for some time now, according to Perry. His belief is that the constitution does not empower the federal government to infringe upon our states rights. A states primary concern should be the peoples individual rights and responsibilities that the state has. I think that if Texas returned to what the Constitution and 10th Amendment really meant, it would become a much stronger, as a state. Perry is interested in being “a leader in a very strong 10th Amendment movement” and working with those who agree with him in the sense that Washington has become too intrusive. He wants to put America back on the right track, and to do so he needs each state to start competing with each other to encourage prosperity. To become a powerful country with a strong economy again, Perry believes that acting out the 10th Amendment will be something that will take him to where he wants to be. I think that everything Perry spoke about in his speech is absolutely...

Perry Smith

...In a crime story, Perry Smith would definitely be the antagonist, because he is the murderer. However, In Cold Blood is not merely a crime story; it is a warning for us that the whole society is responsible to build either good or bad people. Murderers or criminals are not born as criminals at first; they are all born as innocent babies; they start life as we all do: as a blank sheet of paper, ready to be filled with scripts of life. Here in this story, Perry Smith is not only a villain, he is also a victim. The series of failure in the development of little Perry has begun—at least—from his parents. After his father decided to have contraband alcohol business for living, Perry’s mother began to get drunk, and other bad things started to follow. They quarreled often, and I guess peace and love have slowly evaporated from their home and family, replaced by violence. Perry was a child with sensitive and tender heart who should be taken in special care; he needed love, affection and tenderness much more than anybody else with different personalities. These violent episodes in the family, unfortunately, happened on the very important phase of Perry’s early development. After that, his parents separated, and Perry must enter several institutions, and there he did not get any better treatment either. And that because people failed to understand Perry’s needs. If only they gave him love, acceptance and support, I believe it is not too late to bring him to the right path. But, it...

...bTanea Savage Preliminary Thesis: Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” conveys true crime and the portrayal of the killers. Throughout the novel, Perry and Dick are transformed from heartless, cold-blooded monsters, whose actions seem to be motiveless evil, into the troubled, pitiful, and human individuals they are at the end of the book. The crime itself is reduced to many emotional responses. Preliminary Bibliography Capote, Truman. In Cold Blood: Random House. Alan. U. Schwartz. New York, 1965. Two Great Comedians

...Two Great Comedians Tyler Perry and Steve Harvey are two iconic comedians that have soared to great heights in the world of comedy. They are comedians, singers, authors and have appeared on stage and television. These two men have one thing in common; they love to make people laugh. Both of these comedians have struggled in order to find their true calling in life. Steve Harvey lost all his money because of past mistakes and slept in his car for two years. The same can be said for Tyler Perry who took all his money and made a bad investment which left him penniless and he also had to sleep in his car. These two men had the courage to bounce back after living homeless, sleeping in their cars, and have now become world- renowned icons in the comedy world. Tyler Perry is a better comedian than Steve Harvey because Tyler Perry does not use profanity and his style of comedy is acceptable to all ages. During a performance on television Steve Harvey was preparing to come onto the stage. The room was dark, full of cigarette smoke, people drinking, looking around at each other. Suddenly a light shined on the stage. Displayed was a big flashy sign with his signature in bright colors. The master of ceremonies ran out on the stage and yells “Ladies and gentlemen, put ya hands together and show ya love for Steveeeeee Harvaaaaaaay”. Harvey walked out on the stage and immediately began to start talking about some” crazy fool” who cut him off on the freeway, calling him names, and talking...

Tone In Truman Capote's In Cold Blood

...One decision can make an impact in everyone’s life, whether they deserve it or not, and Truman Capote demonstrates this in his novel, In Cold Blood. Tone was a key tool in Capote’s substantiation of this claim. Despite constantly being Dick’s parents being referred to as model parents, their lives were ruined as their son brought humiliation and devastation upon the family. Something Capote uses to bring an overwhelming sense of sympathy for each of them. The author’s makes sure to emphasize certain characters opinions on the murderer’s parents, like Perry who had said that they were “good people” and speaks of Dick’s family like he wanted the same for his own (24). ...HB 1514, “Relating to privileged parking for veterans of World War II.” (TLO), was first filed as a bill on February 19th, 2013 by Rep. Donna Howard. According to Ms. Howard, “HB 1514 is a way of giving back to those who served to protect our freedom during World War II". This bill was signed by the House with 9 Yeas / 0 Nays and the Senate with 4 Yeas / 0 Nays on May 20th, 2013. I did find some conflicting information the date this bill was actually signed by Governor Perry. TLO notes “June 14, 2013”, while the Governor official website shows he signed the bill on “May, 27th, 2013, Memorial Day”. Ultimately this bill went into effect on September 1st, 2013. I believe this bill shows that we still have the utmost respect for our Men and Women off the past and present armed forces. The fine folks that served in WWII and are still here to share their knowledge and experiences deserve every bit of freedom they can get, especially free parking!   Works Cited “Office of the Governor Rick Perry”, Gov. ...Word Count: 981 Jordan Lindsey English 15.002 Mrs. Wickman Argument Essay Lies, love, lust and betrayal are themes showed throughout the movie The Family that Preys; however Josh Tyler a movie Critic from Cinema Blend.com was not convinced. He thought it was the worst movie made in 2009, and that the only thing that saved it was its great performances by Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates and Academy Award-nominee Alfre Woodard; “[a]nd that warm, gooey glow that seems to follow every Tyler Perry movie.” The Family That Preys is a movie for anyone who likes close families, friendship, drama, and a whole bunch of nonsense. This movie is about a Wealthy Socialite, Charlotte Cartwright (Bates), and her close friend, Alice Pratt (Woodard), a working class woman. Their lives are turned upside down as their adult children's extramarital affairs, unethical business practices and a dark paternity secret threaten to derail family fortunes and unravel the lives of all involved. In the review, John says, “Charlotte seems almost to suffer from a split personality disorder. When she’s with Alice she’s a freewheeling, kind, and generous woman. Whenever we see her without her friend, she’s a horrible rich bitch, ripped straight off the set of Dallas or Falcon Crest.” In the movie, Charlotte is never snobby or two faced. She puts on a hard exterior while working because she is fighting an endless battle with her son, William. He believes she has lost her spunk and is trying to excommunicate...

Individuality

...Individuality Born Kathryn Hudson, on October 25, 1984, Katy Perry grew up the middle child of two Christian ministers from Santa Barbara. At 16, Perry released a Christian pop album as Katy Hudson. "It reached literally maybe 100 people," the singer tells Entertainment Weekly, "and then the label went bankrupt." Columbia Records signed her on in 2004 however the label was not amenable with her vision and dropped her before the completion of her album. Perry's commercial breakthrough came in 2008 when she released her first mainstream studio album “One of the Boys.” This was preceded by the release of her first single "I Kissed a Girl". Several successful singles followed thereafter. “Fireworks” was released on October 16, 2010 by Capitol Records as the third single from the album “Teenage Dreams”. This song was considered by Perry as the most important song for her on the album. The song is a self-empowerment anthem with inspirational lyrics regarding participation, public speaking, awareness and exercise of rights, and many more factors that promote individuality. To say this in another way, this song is about the breaking of personal limitation that seem to hold people back. A plastic bag being blown through the wind is aimless and has no control of where it’s going. Katy Perry paints the same picture in her lyrics when she writes that “Do you ever feel like a plastic bag drifting through the wind wanting to start again?” The plastic bag in her song is an allusion to the...

...Why did I get Married, the Tyler Perry film starring Tasha Smith, Janet Jackson, Sharon Leal, Jill Scott, and Tyler Perry himself is the story about the struggle married couples to remain faithful to one another, while focusing on achieving their goals. Each couple participates in a Mountain retreat that takes place in Colorado Mountains in order to focus on the nature of their marriage, reflect on their love for one another. This provided a break from career, daily routine, to reflect on the state of their marriage, while resolving existing issues, dealing with conflict, while maintaining their love for each other. This movie is a contemporary view of African American lifestyles, culture, and life’s issues. Contemporary viewing in African American media is the direct result of how African Americans have worked hard, to overcome past struggles thus changing culture, ideals, beliefs, creating a new way for future generations. This movie can be seen from a variety of areas, such as education level and socioeconomic class conflict. This can also be seen from the gender perspective, as a rival between female behaviour in a relationship, and male behaviour in a relationship. Class, and education can be further analyzed into the lifestyle that is influenced by it, creating new concerns; hence the marriage problems that differ within education and economic class levels. While numerous other theories; sociological, semiotics, Marxist and others can be employed to analyze this film; I...
