The text Hana’s Suitcase expresses themes of perseverance. Fumiko Ishoioka the director of a museum in Tokyo, Japan played a significant role in the finding of Hana. Fumiko’s determination and persistency put a face to Hana’s name rather than just another victim of the Holocaust. As a result, Fumiko was able to share Hana’s unjust, short-lived life with millions of people all around the world. The theme of perseverance is an emphasis on Fumiko’s round characterization. She contacted numerous museums and concentration camps to see if she can get a hold of any item that belonged to children that were victims of the Holocaust.
