Besides to have a BSN degree from the program, my goal for the RN-BSN program is to become an effective APA style journal writer in a language of English. English is my second language, and I have to admit that I have fear and difficulty to express fully my thoughts in English. I was hesitating to choose an online program for BSN degree because of the concern for the extensive writing requirement of the program. However, I chose to challenge myself to overcome my weak point for the ultimate goal in career to become an excellent nurse anesthetist.

I remember I had the same problem when I was at a nursing program several years ago. It was the first semester, and they gave me a quite extensive journal assignment for a new nursing student. It was a 5-7 pages long APA style scientific writing. I was worried very much because I never wrote an APA journal before. On top of it, I had to write in English! Out of anxiety, I started the assignment a couple of week in advance. I started researching journals and articles and studied APA style. After writing a rough draft, I brought it to the writing center at a school to check the grammar errors and awkward expression. I had to revise several times and visited tutoring center multiples times to fix grammar errors. After all these hard work, I finally received an A. The professor even called me in person at her office and complimented how well the journal was written.

Through the experience, I have learned how to write an APA style journal in English and the skills to become a good writer. The key success was planning ahead and giving myself enough time to write. Using extra help from writing center was also necessary in my specific situation. All these lessons I previously learned are adaptable to my current program. I will continue to plan ahead and start assignments early instead of sitting and worrying. Also, I will book online tutoring service to get help in grammar before turning in the papers.
