It made me upset because I enjoyed working in those pools. I didn’t matter where they were located. I never once felt like I was going to get hurt. I realized that these people were so accustomed to their life and being away from others, not like them, that the reality of Alton Sterling’s shooting did not affect them. During the summer I was two blocks working from where he was shot. My coworkers from the public swimming pool were talking about the shooting when it happened. No matter what the skin color was, we all felt affected by the tragedy that happened. Yet when I stood talking to my new coworkers, they did not have a care in the world. Did I mention that one of my white coworkers even said ,’’ well, that’s one less thug off the streets’’.
