Personal Narrative: My Internship With Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital

I knew at a young age, I wanted to work in a medical field. During high school, I saw an opportunity at a program, Jacob Riis, to work at a hospital so I grabbed it. I was assigned to Coler-Goldwater Specialty Hospital and Nursing Facility as a summer intern and it was an experience that I will cherish. At this internship, it was more than taking care of the patients; it was about learning from the patient. Every single patient has a story. Many patients truly undergo a total transformation and have to face ordeals in their lives with or without even knowing it.
I was working with senior residents who had Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Every day I would go to the hospital and the patients wouldn’t remember me or my name at all. I had to
