Personal Narrative: My Job Shadowing At Lincolnway Veterinary Clinic

I had an opportunity to job shadow at Kryder Veterinary Clinic and Lincolnway Veterinary Clinic. This was a great way for me to see first hand what my career as a Vet Tech would be like. I got to see dental procedures, water therapy, medication protocols, and many other interesting things that pertain to being a Vet Tech.
My first day of shadowing was at Lincolnway Veterinary Clinic. I was introduced to staff and given a tour of the clinic. Once we finished the tour of the clinic I was shown the exam rooms and they explained to me which types of animals normally go into which room. They had a cat room, small dog room, large dog room, a euthanasia room, and a couple other rooms for the busy days. The euthanasia room was set up differently from all the other rooms. It was more comforting and had room for families…show more content… I got to observe while they did an x-ray on a dog, The x-ray was being performed because the dog had been limping and they needed to get answers for the client.
During this job shadow a very well known client brought in their dog who had been coming to the clinic for years. Unfortunately, her time had come but she was able to pass peacefully at home with her family. I got to assist the Vet Tech with bagging her for cremation. She explained to me the bag labeling and how they charted them to make sure that everyone got to where they needed to be.
The Vet Tech I was shadowing showed me how to draw up and mix vaccines. She also showed me how to correctly cap the needle to prevent injury to myself. This happens to be the same way we are being taught in school. She showed me how to insert the needle into the vile to remove the vaccine so that I could get all of the vaccine out. She also explained to me some of the different restraint methods used with the animals. I observed some of these methods being used while they were trimming nails, doing physical exams, and cleaning the anal
