Although there was a time before grade school, I don’t remember much about my softball career. However, I do remember everything from sixth grade to senior year of high school.

“Suck It Up Buttercup” (Marquardt).

Sixth grade:
During the day of tryouts, I was extremely nervous because this was my first official year that I had a coach that I didn’t know: Ms. Tucker. I was nervous because there was a “C” team, “B” team, and an “A” team and I wanted to be on the “A” team; however, it’s very rare for a sixth grader to make the “A” team. I knew that I had to give it my all: 100%. After tryouts, she told us who made it and what team we were on. Next thing I knew, Ms. Tucker said, “Hannah Harbaugh, congratulations you made both the “C” and “B” …show more content…
Our new coach for the “A” team was Sharon Marquardt. One struggle that our coach faced right off the bat was: we didn’t have a catcher; therefore, Coach Marquardt had to convince someone to take on that role. Our new catcher for the “A” team was me: Hannah Harbaugh. Although it was a little challenging at first, I eventually loved being a catcher. The only thing that I could improve on was blocked. I was used to fielding ground balls; therefore, if the ball was in the dirt, I wanted to field it like a ground ball. At the end of the season, I was very honored to Coach Marquardt had picked me to be the catcher. She saw something in me that I didn’t even see in myself: utility …show more content…
Our first game was against Marissa (don’t underestimate them), and I was 2-4. My first hit was a home run inside the park and my second hit was my choice of bunting for a hit. I love being the 3rd hitter in the line-up because they think you are going to hit everytime, but I don’t. I know how fast I can run; therefore, I do a sneak attack bunt and earn a base hit in the books. Our team did very well against Marissa. We won. However, our second game, not so much. We lost against Dupo; however, we didn’t hit the greatest. Freeburg only had 2 hits: my home run and Maddison Schanuel's line drive to the right fielder. It was my first actual earned home run over the fence and I’m very thankful that I get to spend my last year with my girls. I love each and everyone of them and I hope this season will be as good and spectacular as it was last
