Personal Summary: The Survivor Wellness Challenge

Throughout the Survivor Wellness Challenge, I tried to create more healthy habits and lose my unhealthy ones. I would say that each week I succeeded in the nutrition challenges because I made sure to eat fruits, vegetables, superfoods, and drink plenty of water. The only week that was difficult for the nutrion challenges was Easter weekend, because there was plenty of candy around taunting me. The exercise challenges came very natural for me because I was already in the habit of going to the gym and working out for at least an hour each day. However, the wellness and sleep challenges were much more difficult for me. I did meditate once and follow the week two wellness challenge check list, however my sleep schedule was very unhealthy. A change I should make is to organize and get prepared for school the next day at least an hour before bed. I have the habit of setting out my clothes and packing my lunch the night before, however I tend do to that late at night which prevents me from getting enough sleep. I also want to start to meditate and stretch before I go to sleep. I think it is important to take the time to reflect upon your day and focus on your breathing to clear your mind. Another change I should make is to not eat past eight o’clock. Some nights I would eat dinner to early and therefore want food later at night which is unhealthy because your metabolism does not work as effiecient at night when your body is beginning to unwind. Another habit I want to start, is to not being on my phone 30 minutes before I go to sleep. I am used to watching a show before I go to bed, but I think if I were to fall asleep without my phone I would get much more and better sleep. The final habit I will work on, is to expose myself to sunlight right when I get up. Although this habit sounds like torture in the morning, I think it would help me wake up and feel more energized throughout the

Millhollan March 29, 2005 Abstract Health and wellness in the workplace plays a vital role in a companies’ ability to not only keep their employees healthy, but also to keep the costs of absenteeism and health-care down. The most important asset to a company is not only their clients, but their employees. Companies are investing not only in their employees’ wellness, but also in their safety and fitness as well. In an effort to keep their employees healthy physically and psychologically, companies are incorporating employee-wellness programs into their work environment to ensure their employees maintain healthy lives. This research paper will focus not only on the physical impact that unhealthy workplaces have on employees but what different companies are doing to promote long-term wellness. Health and Wellness in the Workplace Employers are faced not only with soaring costs of health-care but also with the rising costs of employee absenteeism, and they are reevaluating what used to be purely a personal matter for workers (Kaplan-Leiserson, 2004). In a study conducted during the years 2000 – 2002, the rates of absenteeism remained essentially stable--2.1 percent in 2000, 2.2 percent in 2001, and 2.1 percent in 2002; the costs of paid unscheduled absenteeism rose sharply, not just in 2002 but also in 2001, when they jumped to $755 per employee...

...The School Culture Attitudes and Beliefs Attitudes Toward Change Cultural Norms Cultural Norms that Facilitate School Improvement Relationships The term culture has been defined in various ways by many authors as discussed earlier in this paper. Here the culture of the school will be viewed as the existence of an interplay between three factors: the attitudes and beliefs of persons both inside the school and in the external environment, the cultural norms of the school, and the relationships between persons in the school. Each of these factors may present barriers to change or a bridge to long-lasting implementation of school improvement. It bears repeating, however, that the interrelatedness of these facets of the school most strongly affects the efforts of those seeking to improve schools. As Fullan (1991) notes, factors affecting implementation "form a system of variables that interact to determine success or failure" (p. 67). The Impact of Culture An examination of school culture is important because, as Goodlad's study (1984) points out, "alike as schools may be in many ways, each school has an ambience (or culture) of its own and, further, its ambience may suggest to the careful observer useful approaches to making it a better school" (p. 81). Krueger and Parish (1982), in their study of five districts implementing and then discontinuing programs, postulate that the key to program implementation and continuation is "the interactive relationships that teachers...

...WORKING WITH ABUSED CHILDREN 1 / CHAPTER ONE The Abuse of Filipino Childr en Filipino families consider children as gifts from God (Bulatao 1975). They are persons who inspire love and affection and bring happiness and security in the twilight years of parents. Interestingly, children are seen as links to immortality because children pass on from one generation to another the family’s name, history, and heritage. Often, children are portrayed as being nurtured and properly attended to in their homes; however, Filipino children are not as secure and protected as they are ideally portrayed. The increasing number of street children who work on the streets or beg for alms from pedestrians and motorists belie such an idealized portrayal. Street children, among other things, are the most palpable reminder that all is not well with Filipino children. Reality reveals the many children who are denied even the most minimum of needs like food, love, nurturance, stability, security, and stimulating learning environment that will allow for their healthy development. Many Filipino children are rushed into maturity because early on in their lives, they are forced to contend with difficult problems and to take on adult roles and responsibilities. Media and popular and academic literature, more than any other time, has brought to our attention the plight of children, be they street children or not, who perform adult roles and who are in need of the basic components ...

The collection and movement of this data will power the health care of the future. Health IT has the potential to empower individuals and increase transparency; enhance the ability to study care delivery and payment systems; and ultimately achieve improvements in care, efficiency, and population health. However, these technologies – including electronic health records (EHRs), personal health records (PHRs), telehealth devices, remote monitoring technologies, and mobile health applications – are remarkably underutilized today. In 2010, only 25 percent of physician offices and 15 percent of acute care hospitals took advantage of EHRs. i...

...section Vi essay forms Many people use the term “essay” to mean any paper written for a class. In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. It would be advantageous to critically analyze the form and content of each sample against the instruction for how to write each type of essay. chapter 21 expository essays Jennifer propp An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind. Writing this type of essay is a good way to learn about all the different perspectives on a topic. Many students use the expository essay to explore a variety of topics, and do so in a wide range of formats, including “process” and “definition”...

Budget

...OVERVIEW UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE FISCAL YEAR 2014 BUDGET REQUEST APRIL 2013 OFFICE OF THE UNDER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE (COMPTROLLER) / CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER Preface The Overview Book has been published as part of the President’s Annual Defense Budget for the past few years. This continues for FY 2014, but with modifications as proposed by congressional staff. From FY 1969 to FY 2005 OSD published the “Annual Defense Report” (ADR) to meet 10 USC Section 113 requirements. Starting with the President’s FY 2006 Budget, this report was no longer produced. Subsequently, the Overview began to fill this role. This year to ensure compliance with Section 113, new chapters are added to include reports from each Military Department on their respective funding, military mission accomplishments, core functions, and force structure. Key initiatives incorporated in the FY 2014 Defense budget. Our budget is formulated based on aligning program priorities and resources based on the President’s strategic guidance. This year’s budget involves key themes to: achieve a deeper program alignment of our future force structure with resource availability; maintain a mission ready force; continue to emphasize efficiencies by being even better stewards of taxpayer dollars; and continue to take care of our people and their families. Implementing Defense Strategic Guidance. The FY 2014 budget request continues the force structure reductions made in the FY 2013 budget request. Following...
