...PHL/320 University of Phoenix Robert Sparks June 4, 2015 Critical thinking- The art of exploring questions that focuses on how we think- not what we think; which guides us to improving the way we think. Simply put it is the process of improving the way we think while using certain skills such as having the ability to analyze the information we receive to be able to process, assess and become a critical thinker. One must possess the ability to reason, thus critical thinking allows one to make sound, rational decisions based on the information received as a result of asking probing questions and actively listening for the answers. This way of thinking will offer one more control of their decisions; allowing them to learn by simply inquiring. I have had many debates with close friends about my way of thinking. I was once that person who knew what she knew and would conclude based upon my own knowledge and understanding of how I thought things or situations were supposed to conclude and how one will need to proceed. This way of thinking usually came to life without fact and an overflow of baseless assumptions. Yes, I know this was an awful way of thinking but I am being honest. I was that person who would not ask questions for understanding. I was stubborn and refused any guidance or teaching on the topic. Then I met my match. I found myself toe-to-toe in the ring with as accomplished thinker. My friend helped me to think outside of my box and to cut ties with my over-imaginative...

...Globalization (Good or Bad) PHL/320 1/30/2016 Business Globalization is the tendency of business technologies, capitol, goods and services to spread throughout the world going beyond local and nationalistic boundaries. The practice generally accelerates profitability, and brand recognition while offering security from significant losses and expenses faced by similar entity’s in smaller business models. Although this sounds positive and beneficial; it does include unrestricted movement of labor and often may harm smaller or more fragile economies if applied universally. While I will focus on the impact globalization has on an organization from a business point of view, which is most often and very much a positive for the viability of a given business model; the crippling effect it has on standards of living, local economies, and job creation should not be forgotten. (1) There was a time being a local corner stone in business was “good”. At that time being a regional business was even better, and being a notional brand was just impressive; but in today’s world the ultimate goal is to be a global dominate brand. Globalization for business is “good”. The term “good” for the sake of this argumentative piece means it is advantageous and/or favorable economically to a business that is trying to grow, compete, and dominate in its space. It is also “good” for a business looking to find lower cost and/or obtain more diversified suppliers. As a business enters...

...Mismanaged Layoffs April Auld Cheryl Oaks John Curtis Phillip Bradshaw PHL/320 November 23, 2015 Mathew Hazlett Mismanaged Layoffs To summarize our teams discussion this week. We narrowed the discussion down to the way layoffs are executed within any company for the most part. We already agree that there are far too many layoffs in today’s economy. Therefore, the traumatic effects this will cause on the company. Including the individual’s and the workers that are left behind, is the real issue at hand. The aggressiveness or empathy levels of the situation never help. Larger companies have a better finesse about the separations from the company it is well planned with severance packages for the employees. No Matter how well planned it is still a shock to the system. Including all that is involved families and so forth. The fact is that there is no great way to separate anyone from their position. However, we all had our opinions on the solutions for this, using fewer contract workers, transferring staff from one department to another, hiring temp staff seasonally, offering pay cuts over termination. Setting up an alternative plan of employment, job fairs, offer classes in the severance...

...Globalization Argumentative Paper Tie'rra Lorrine Holman PHL 320 July 13,2015 Jose A. Rodriguez Globalization Argumentative Paper Globalization is defined as “the development of an increasingly integrated global economy marked especially by free trade, free flow of capital, and the tapping of cheaper foreign labor markets” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary, 2015). Globalization is not good for the developed nations. Globalization could mean a higher level of imports and a substantial gain in capital but these do not guarantee economic growth. (1, Conclusion) “Globalization in developed nations harms the interests of the working class and the poor in healthier nations” (Mandle, 2006). (1, Premise) This is because the open product markets drive down wages. Globalization also negates labor rights. And last but not least, globalization puts environmental rights at risk. (2, Conclusion) “Trade relations between a developed and underdeveloped nation can result in reduced wages for unskilled workers in the rich nations” (Mandle, 2006). (2, Premise) When manufacturing spreads to the richer nations, more competition is created. Thus, some industries are forced to cut back on production and jobs. (2, Premise) Once jobs are lost or production is decreased, this can cause a chain reaction, next affecting the wages. “Though most empirical research into the causes of the recent wage situation in the United States does not identify globalization as the major cause involved, this mechanism...

...Good and Bad of Globalization Calvin Borders PHL/320 8/25/2015 University of Phoenix Good and Bad of Globalization Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. (1, Premise) Having an open market is very good for efficient and effective communications with customers, suppliers and partners and also manage their supplies, inventory and distribution networks better. Having the ability to sell in markets across the world with the same effort and ease as selling in your own city. (1, Conclusion) These are reason that globalization is good for business. Globalization is not always good for business, it could also be bad. (2, Premise) The high degree of integration of domestic and local markets, profit swings, the increased level of competition, vast amount of and business and product destruction all bring about new risks and uncertainties. According to "The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Side Of Globalization" (2011). (2, Conclusion) Corporations that previously have been enjoying the benefits of globalization, now face unstable and unpredictable demand and business opportunities and their products quickly become commodities, leaving them little or no pricing power and under constant pressure by new competitors that undermine profitability. ...Denise Johnson Class: PHL/320 Instructor: Jose Rodriguez Due Date: 01/25/2016 Title: Critical thinking discussion and summary The way I define critical thinking is to evaluate an issue and determine a conclusion without putting personal judgements and thoughts in to the situation. What makes a person a critical thinker? To be able to think logically and come to conclusions based off facts. Making wise choices also comes from critical thinking because in order to make a wise choice there is a lot of effort and thought behind it. Critical thinking has helped me so much in my life for example I believe it was my critical thinking that had me enroll into college and get a degree. I asked myself how I will be able to have a decent living and good earnings. I am a single mother to three and working three jobs in order to provide for my family. I believe that if I earn a degree and educate myself I will be able to land a good job making way more than minimum wage. My ideal goal is to gain a degree and eventually work only one job that will help me be financially stable and secure. I expect to learn how to be a better critical thinker and to be able to make better choices with the help of this course. I want to be able to think before I act so I do not have to suffer from consequences of my actions because I did not think beforehand. I believe enhancing my critical thinking skills and being better at making decisions will save me disappointment in my future....

...Globalization in Business Denise Martin PHL/320 October 26, 2015 Jennifer Stephens Globalization in Business Globalization in business has so many benefits that I believe that, although it may have it’s bad side, it’s good sides make it a smart move for a business to make to stay competitive and grow in today’s economy. Saying that globalization for businesses is good I mean that there are so many positives for globalizations that it can be a major benefit for a business. The plus sides of globalization Globalization is, according to Businessdictionary.com (2015), “The worldwide movement toward economic, financial, trade, and communications integration.” (1, premise) Globalization is a way for businesses and companies to be able to expand their market from local to nationwide or even worldwide if they so desire. It opens the ways a company can communicate and the speed in which it can communicate with other businesses, clients or customer base. (2, premise) Another way that globalization is good for a company is that a company who uses globalization to advertise and “spread the word” of the services and products it offers can reach a larger number of people not only to grab them as customers, but, they can reach out to advertisement agencies and find different people with different ideas that they may feel will work much better for the way they would like to advertise. (1, conclusion)While there are downsides to globalization...

...Re-Organization and Layoff: Issue and Problem Identification Paper June 29, 2015 Learning Team A PHL/320 Richard Haines Management positions are tough as it is, but how does a member of the management team handle the tough decisions that they have discovered will be the best for their company? Layoffs and downsizing are never an easy topic to tackle. How does a manager deliver this type of bad news in the most professional way? The issue that was presented in the article “Mismanaged layoffs can go horribly wrong” was companies and their management teams are not able to layoff or terminate an employee or employees in the appropriate way. The author of the article feels as management is not able to handle these types of situations in a professional manner. Members of management often have great people skills, which are either something they were born with, or something they have learned throughout their lifetime, but when faced with the challenging situation of letting an employee go they are unable to say the right things. With proper training of these tough situations, managers will be able to handle these types of situations in a more professional manner. Managers need to be able to put themselves in the employee’s shoes and speak to the employee as if they were on the other side of the conversation. Mangers should also explore every option within the company before taking the action to layoff or terminate an employee. Documentation...

...PHL/320 – Critical Thinking and the Decision Making Process Mr. Howard Kersey June 29, 2015 Globalization is it Good or Bad for a Business? (1, Premise) Globalization is good for business because it creates opportunities and efficiencies in the open market. Technology today provides greater communication inside and outside the country which allows businesses to manage their customers, suppliers and distribution more effectively; (1, Conclusion) greater efficiencies brings bigger business. (2, Premise) The broader market allows for better pricing of supplies, (2, Conclusion) which in turn, the savings could be passed on to the customer. In addition, (3, Premise) globalization builds a market for businesses to sell their products just as easy within the United States as it does outside the United States; (3, Conclusion) larger markets will increase sales. Some would say that globalization allows for higher outsourcing of jobs and to some extent that is true, however, if the production wasn’t outsourced many of those businesses wouldn’t be able to compete at all. By moving production overseas, they are able to produce a product that can be imported to the United States and distributed here, creating jobs. (4, Premise) The downside to globalization is the increased competition in a broader market; (4, Conclusion) the risk is too great. The increased competition can create a market that makes it difficult to leverage pricing. (5, Premise) Suppliers can become more selective...
