Adulthood
Physical
Adulthood is where humans are at their peak of their physical parts of them. This is between 18 to 28 year olds. This is why in football the majority of footballers retire in their 30’s. At age 30 from then our bodies start to deteriorate meaning the majority of the time we get weaker. Both sexes’ eye sights get worse which is why when people get older they have to wear glasses. Men most of the time start to lose hair as well as skin loses elasticity which is why wrinkles. Also by the age of 40 some people cannot hear high pitched sounds as well and the hair is also starting to go grey. When women are 18 and early 20’s, they can conceive the best (at the peak of conceiving). As women get older usually from 25, they start to have higher risks of miscarriages and complications for e.g. the child could have down syndrome. At the ages of 45-55 years women go through menopause. The menopause, also known as the 'change of life' is the end of menstruation. This means a woman's ovaries stop producing an egg every four weeks. She will no longer have a monthly period or be able to have children. Some women may experience unpleasant symptoms such as hot sweats, depression and tiredness. One of the main problems can be loss of calcium in the bones which means that women are more likely to break or fracture bones. For this reason calcium supplements are often taken. Menopause also affects a woman’s emotional development. Older adults are more likely to put on weight as they keep the same diet but get less and less of exercise.
Intellectual
Majority of people nowadays always carry on with full time education. This is mostly when people go to university alternatively it’s when they learn a different set of skills at work. To carry on people have to extend and develop their work skills. Some typical intellectual skills learnt in adulthood are learning how to raise a family, managing a budget, living with a partner and studying for a new qualification. As adults age they react more slowly and find it more difficult to remember information under pressure. Memory declines with age so just as your physical self needs exercise to keep flexible the mind also needs to be kept active. However increased wisdom is also associated with getting older.
Emotional
In most cases adulthood is a happy and positive time for most people. Adulthood is associated with leaving home. Young adults learn to be independent, self-reliant, and discover more how to see things from another’s perspective. A high level of emotional maturity is needed in adulthood when in a relationship, also it is very important the relationship isn’t broke down when a problem arises. Parents have to behave sensibly and act responsible when having children. This means that adults would have to learn to control anger, frustration, and love and so on. When adults are at the middle of their life, occasionally they reach a midlife crisis. A mid-life crisis is where adults come to realize their own mortality and how much time is left in their life. A midlife crisis is experienced by many people during the midlife transition when they realize that life may be more than halfway over. Women feel the same when they go through menopause as they feel a sense of loss.
Social
In the early stages of adulthood, the majority of the time people continue to develop their network of personal friends. In most cases early adulthood is when people start to develop sexual partnerships. As adulthood goes on and as we get older we go into marriage and start being parents. (Most of the time) These two stages are two of the most important times of adulthood and more in general of your life. People create and develop public relationships through the world of work. In this generation and how good and amazing the internet is, a lot of the time we speak to our friends over social networking sites. We also develop informal friendships and can socialise amongst adults. The internet has also caused more social needs as now we can speak to people from different countries and basically socialise with them sometimes also over social networking. This means the internet has made social lives quite a lot better due to people now talking to each other more and more easily.
