Swanson, Territo, and Taylor (2012) stated that the Pinkerton National Detective Agency is "a private detective agency that excelled at tracking down outlaws" (p. 41). The agency was formed in the 1850's by Allan Pinkerton ( Pinkerton history, 2015). The western law enforcement agencies during that time had limited jurisdiction, but this agency did not they were able to across jurisdiction lines in order to catch the outlaws.
