...f. Brandt Rosenberg read my paper, and gave me some positive feedback. III. Assistance g. Brandt Rosenberg provided some ideas I could use in my paper. We both had similar questions or statements. h. Hannah Mercer made sure I didn’t fall asleep writing this paper. We stayed up late working on it in the library. IV. Reflection i. I really enjoyed writing this paper. I liked how you let us choose what we wanted to talk about. I felt like my writing has got so much better since the beginning of this semester. I hope you enjoy what I think about language and how it has impacted me as a person. Thank you for being an awesome teacher! I will defiantly miss having your class. Thank you for helping grow as a writer and being able to express myself through writing. From the time I took my first steps into a college class, up until now writing this paper and studying for finals…I have used language every day. One question or thought that has been coming to mind all semester is, how we use language to shape our thoughts or how we use language to shape the way we think of other? What I mean by this is when we first see someone, we have already judged them and put them into a category automatically before actually getting to know them. On my first day I met this guy whose name is Derek. My first thought of him was this guy has got to be in a band (the rock band, not a school band). The reason my mind jumped at this conclusion is...

...mind is a very powerful tool that runs on the data that we put into it. We all have lenses that filter how we see the world around us. Based on what passes through those lenses, we build a system of how we perceive the world. It shapes what we believe to be true. Our life, culture, choices everything is shaped by these beliefs. These lenses are given to us through the influences throughout our life. We all have key people or events that shaped our belief systems. Our parents, siblings, friends, culture, media, religion all play a big role in what lens we wear. Culture is formed by a group of people that all wear similar lens or have shared belief systems. There is nothing good or bad about that, it is just a way of life for all of us. Our beliefs shape what we value in life. They shape what our culture values. Our values shape the actions or behaviors we engage in. They shape the common practices of our culture, our communities. Our actions or behaviors always lead to results or outcomes. To put it simply think of a tree. The roots are like our beliefs they hold us in place and provide stability. Our values are like the trunk of that tree. They are visible and strong. Our actions or behaviors are like the branches, they stem from what we value. Lastly the fruit or flowers that grow on the branches are the results of our actions or behaviors. There is a way that seems right to us but the results of that belief, that value, that action can have a negative outcome. Have you ever believed...

...Does Community Help Shape who People become? Do you ever think about how you became the person you are today? Community does help shape who people become because community supports each other. The biggest influence in our community to help shape who we become is our friends and family. The surroundings of our community can play a huge factor in shaping who we become but there could be both positive and negative effects. Community helps and supports one another. In the “Raven Steals the Salmon from the Beaver House” by: Bill Reid, “They were very friendly, and they saw at once that the Raven was in great need of something to eat and a warm place to rest his wings.” The beavers helped the Raven by giving him a place to stay and feeding him salmon. This quote shows that community is a great resource because they help and support each other. In one of the videos from Ted Talks, Ivan Coyote was supporting...

...particular piece of public art. So what happens when the disagreement is directly between the public who is observing the piece and those who put it in place? It’s never really clear-cut who is right or wrong. One might say that it should be up to the observer, but maybe the observer doesn’t put full effort into understanding the art or simply can’t understand it. Should public art reflect public opinion or should it serve to shape the public’s perception of art? These are complex questions on a topic that is very...

...№ 18 [Type text] : HEADLINES by Craig Halsall Dear all, Spring Holiday IGCSE & A Level Revision Programmes An important letter has been sent home with Year 10, 11, 12 and 13 pupils. Parents will also have received a copy of the letter via email and notification of the same via my official school Twitter feed, @CRHalsall. The letter explains an opportunity that we are considering offering to pupils taking IGCSE, AS or A2 examinations this summer. The importance of effective revision in helping pupils achieve their best possible grade is well documented. Effective revision can often make the difference and help pupils achieve higher grades. We also believe that pupils find it difficult to revise at home, which can be stressful for parents too. We are therefore considering offering an intensive revision programme during the last major school holiday before the summer exams. Full details of the programme are set out in the letter. There is also a link to an online survey that will take a maximum of two minutes to complete. The purpose of the survey is to understand the level of interest in the revision programme. A large number of pupils have expressed an interest in attending the programme, but it can only run should there be sufficient demand. Please complete the online survey by Monday 2nd February to express an interest in learning more about the intensive revision programme. Key Stage 1 Open Forum The Key Stage 1 Parents’ Open Forum...

...can talk about the many people or institutions that had influence our ethics in a good or bad ways, but at the end it is up to us who pick and choose what the decision to make. This paper will explain the developmental aspects of my ethics and personal ethics; it will also explain the importance of ethics at the work place. When we talk about ethics we can find the difference ways that individuals can influence us. Fist our parents, they teach us right from wrong and that is better to be honest and do the right things in life even that at times doing the right thing may look unfair. Being fair and taking responsibility for our actions its part of an individual’s ethics way of been, its show good morals at least that what my grandparents had taught me. As I was grown up with my grandparents who set up the initials ground for me to choose from right or wrong, my grandparents shape me to be a very hard worker and to always be honest because life bring consequence when acting unethical. Of course that once as I grow older I had made many bad choices in my life but I believe that once you are taught something as a young child when you become an adult you will apply it and that exactly what had I done. As a teenager I did many thing that I shouldn’t had done, but in time looking to act the right way find myself following a religion that had help me shape myself to be today who I became in life. Today I value the morals that my grandparents taught me. I learn to be fair, respectful...

...1. Provide three (3) examples of how federalism has evolved from its origins to the American political system in place today Top of Form | | Bottom of Form 2. Examine three to five (3-5) factors that have allowed the concept of federalism to shape American political behavior 3. Discuss at least two (2) factors that illustrate how the relationship between the states and the U.S. federal government influences the creation of American policies overall 1. Provide three (3) examples of how federalism has evolved from its origins to the American political system in place today. Federalism defines a concept contrary to the federal government that takes all the authority of control. Federalism implies division of command among the levels of government. The central government does not take full control of the relationships of the nation but there is sharing of command between the governments at national and state levels. The Federal association has members from diverse groups represented by their heads and leaders and are held together by a required covenant. (Wilson, Diiulio andBose,2014) Before the political system was in place today, the colonies was later formed the United States have their own government and political system based on the traditions and culture of its citizens. Before the alliance, every state exercises its own command governed by laws unique to its citizens that may be not practically relevant to the other states (Bohm & Haley, 2007). ...positive learning atmosphere in a school for young children is a composite of many things. It is an attitude that respects children. It is a place where children receive guidance and encouragement from the responsible adults around them. It is an environment where children can experiment and try out new ideas without fear or failure. It is an atmosphere that builds children’s self-confidence so they dare to take risks. It is an environment that nurtures a love of learning. In order to be a successful teacher, you need to understand that each child has different ways in which they learn better. I feel a teacher should have a variety of teaching techniques and mix all the different ways of teaching in their lesson plans to help fill the needs of each individual student. As a teacher, Math can be and is a very tough subject to learn. Teaching Math and making it fun to learn. Teaching children that mathematics is a language that we use every day to identify, investigate and describe every day challenges. We can describe different situations and events that we have to prepare for or events that have already occurred. Understanding the world we live in is best because mathematics is all around us. Mathematics consists of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics, and probability. We have numbers, quantities, data, and shapes all around us. Solving and understanding problems is mathematics. Making it fun for a student is much more than learning skills or collection of concepts...

...provides an idea of how our memories tell us our identity and shape us to be the way we are. One of the events that left primarily Americans shocked and angry was the 2,001 September 11 attacks. Later on, a bunch of scientist would survey people about the recent terror attacks. What they found out was the memory started decaying and people would tell makebelieve events. All of this concludes that by waiting a few weeks before telling a traumatic event, “ Subjects will still remember the terrible event, but the feelings of pain associated with it will be rewritten in light of what they feel now” (7). The idea of taking some type of pill after a recent event will be able to help calm you down. However, most medicines do not work that way and in fact can make you feel worst. Starting off with the drug PKMzeta inhibitors, invented by Todd Sacktor, was its ability to target a single memory that inhibited PKMzeta activity. As he tested the drug on animals, he started believing it would work as they forgot the memories. As it was tested on rats, Nader hypothesizes how, “ By injecting a protein synthesis inhibitor before the rats were exposed to only one of the sound-- and therefore before they underwent memory reconsilidation-- the rats could be ‘trained’ to forget the fear associated with that particular tone” (10). While it sounds great that by target a specific memory will not intact the rest of the memories, the definition of what is a painful memory remains in place. People might use...

...Garbage collection Garbage collection is a process of releasing the memory used by the objects, which are no longer referenced. This is done in different ways and different manners in various platforms and languages. We will see how garbage collection is being done in .NET. The .Net Framework provides a new mechanism for releasing unreferenced objects from the memory (that is we no longer needed that objects in the program) ,this process is called Garbage Collection (GC). When a program creates an Object, the Object takes up the memory. Later when the program has no more references to that Object, the Object's memory becomes unreachable, but it is not immediately freed. The Garbage Collection checks to see if there are any Objects in the heap that are no longer being used by the application. If such Objects exist, then the memory used by these Objects can be reclaimed. So these unreferenced Objects should be removed from memory , then the other new Objects you create can find a place in the Heap. The reclaimed Objects have to be Finalized later. Finalization allows a resource to clean up after itself when it is being collected. This releasing of unreferenced Objects is happening automatically in .Net languages by the Garbage Collector (GC). The programming languages like C++, programmers are responsible for allocating memory for Objects they created in the application and reclaiming the memory when that Object is no longer needed for the program. In .Net languages there is...

...smiling. The man holding the whip has a long beard but it doesn’t show what he is about to hit and the man in the back-ground is wearing a hat. They are both wearing black and white. There are wood buildings in the back-ground with a blue sky and white clouds hovering over them, the ground is red and black. The painting is not realistic, it almost looks like a cartoon. I think the artist is trying to give us the feel that it was a long time ago and it is very mysterious. The guy in the back ground is telling the guy with the beard to hurt someone or something nut the picture does not show us what it is. They are not well off in the picture, they don’t have a lot and they work hard for what they do have. The elements and principles of design that this piece has is, line, shape, color, texture, balance, emphasis, and movement. Line is used a lot in this piece, all the lines that separate each piece of wood on the buildings, and all the clouds, people and buildings are out lined. This uses shape because all of the brown pieces of wood are rectangles and there are different shapes throughout the piece. Color is used on the whole piece, different colors and different shades of the colors are being used. Texture is used because the way the oil comes off the wood gives it a rough texture. Balance is very important in this piece because the clouds and the people off set each other to balance it out, the people are more to the left and the clouds are to the right. Emphasis is used but the...

...of a successful and fruitful life may not be the same as another man's hope for a brighter future. How one defines success is therefore integral to that person's experience of life in and around him. As we are creatures of habit, we can proceed through life with preconceived notions of what is and what should be, convinced that what has worked in the past must also work in the future. In that way we deny ourselves the virtue of malleability. We are often our own worst enemies. The Chinese philosopher and military tactician Sun Tzu likened the successful soldier to water. "Water shapes its course according to the nature of the ground over which it flows; the soldier works out his victory in relation to the foe whom he is facing." The brilliance of this idea is not in the likening of life to war, rather in revealing the simple truth that we are a product of our experiences and how we adapt determines our success, along with what path we take. Each hill and valley we encounter provides us with an opportunity to adapt and change, gives us the chance to use our talents within the realms of our potential to evolve our life in new and sometimes unexpected ways. God's plan may be unknown and unfathomable to us as mere mortals, and there is no way we can predict where the road will lead us. We can, however, embrace our role in the game that is life, and welcome the changes that take place. We must do this with a serene state of mind, because life's paths and turns require a clear-headed...

...don’t complain because we have gotten used to waiting for someone else to do it for us. I think that we should get up from our seats and stand up for ourselves. We are considered a sleeping giant. As a sleeping giant we need to wake up and take control of the situations. America needed to stand up and complain if the trains to hot or if we don’t get enough change back. This will help us to better ourselves from not standing up for what is our right. We also don’t stand up because we afraid of what other people think of us. The KYW radio station’s slogan says “You give us fifteen minutes, we’ll give you the world”, and we’ll foolishly believe them. Therefore we are slowly handing over our freedom to make choices to “a powerful government whose hold upon us” gets stronger every time we pass over the opportunity to speak our mind. If we don’t stand up for each other than the government will take over all of our rights and we will never have freedoms for the rest of our lives. The bank bailouts and the buying of American companies like GMC are all examples of how “more power drains away from the individual to…far-off places”, and since we do not speak out against it, we are becoming helpless and have“less say about the shape of events that shape our future.” This is why we need to stand up cause like I said we won’t have any say in what we vote for, want, need, and other important thing that may help us for the future of the united states of...
