Product Offering
Kalix is a swimwear production company base in Puerto Rico. This company specializes in swimwear and sportswear design, manufacturing and distribution. Kalix manufacture their products in a custom manner basically on demand, which means it can be in small or large amount orders all depend on the customer needs. Furthermore this company mayor steady income came from local boutiques and retailers. As a growing company Kalix want to expand for that reason company designers came with a new product they expect to launch in and outside of the United States. Kalix have an exclusive line of products called Purple Drop, Purple Drop swim wear is a local line with great acceptance in the island. Purple Drop also have they star product call “Sleek Koture” and because of the remarkable local sales and demand of this product, Kalix want to try it out of the united state. * “Sleek Koture” is what women commonly known as body Shapers but with a twist. “Body shapers are made out of strong materials (typically a mixture of nylon and lycra) that are able to force the body into shape and instantly make anyone seem inches thinner. All companies claim that their body shapers are comfortable, and they truthfully are more comfortable than the corset of the past” (Essorment, 2012). * We called it shaper with a twist because most of the competition has marketing a similar product as lingerie. The prints are boring or too simple, even though you can look great wearing them as a garment. The twist in Purple Drop “Sleek Koture” is they do them in fashionable prints, ready to wear outfits, Swim and sport wear. Kalix new product will offer costumer flexibility movement comfort and security. * Kalix main office will move to the States specifically in the Swimwear Mecca Miami Florida. Miami is a very fashionable city with a tropical warm weather and the Swimwear Fashion Week. The Swimwear Fashion Week will be the perfect platform to show the world the new Purple Drop designs and their new and improved shapers. Miami will be the Home for their administrative and marketing offices keeping Puerto Rico manufacturing and warehouse. Currently Kalix is examining the possibility of outsourcing the Human Capital, they will choose between Colombia, Mexico or Panama, to take advantage of the Central America Free Trade Agreement also known as CAFTA or the Free Trade of Americas Agreement (FTAA). * “The swimwear industry is doing swimmingly” that is the perfect phrase to describe the annual world's largest Swimwear industry event sited at the Miami Beach Convention Center. “Sales have taken off since the recession and are poised for further growth this year” (Hemlock, 2012).There has been a growing interest in the body and social acceptation during the past years. Therefore this has made a constant development in the Spandex textile and swimwear industries. The swimwear industry has become a billionaire industry. The designing possibilities are as big every customer needs and interest. * At the moment the company is making market studies and comparing prices, benefits and possible profits before change the home base from Puerto Rico to Florida as you can appreciate in Table 1.1 Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats and Tendencies (SWOTT). * * Table 1.1 SWOTT Strengths | 1. Kalix want penetrates in Miami competitive market with “Sleek Koture” product with different twist. The Miami area has been growing in gross sales from last year recovering from the economic recession of United States. Kalix competitive position with product “Sleek Koture” in the Miami area will impact the population, raising the need to the product since this area identified by a high level of obesity by the CDC. The product is intended for people who have problems as weight they want to have a slim figure wearing comfortable and fashion clothing. IBIS World estimates that 24.0% of industry lingerie revenue is generated in the region of Florida (Panteva, 2012). Despite similar products in the market at the Miami area, Kalix is expecting that with their new and innovative of body shaper swimwear “Sleek Koture” will produce a big impact the market. The similar products are impacting the Miami market are Leonisa, Colombian body shapers, Maidenform, Spanks and Victoria Secret.
The average prices of competitors fluctuate at the Miami area is between $ 50.00 to up to $ 160.00. IBIS World estimates that in 2012, the four major players in the industry account for about 60.0% of total revenues of the industry with the greatest player ( Victoria Secret), representing 51.1% with small players (Panteva, 2012). In recent years, the concentration of industry body shapers has increased mainly due to increased foreign competition like Colombian body Shapers. The competitors at the Miami area are department stores, independent stores and e-commerce websites that have provided extra service through the internet.
One of the factors to move the marketing office to Miami is that; Miami – Dade County, Florida, is confronting a battle with obesity in their residents. With a population of 408,568, millions, 66.3% of their residents suffer of obesity. This situation is affecting the female population physically and emotionally. Ironically Miami is one of the most beautiful people and fashionable cities were looks are apriority and owning a Bathing Suit is not a Luxury is a necessity. Miami is one of the leaders of the finance, commerce and fashion industries in the United States cities. The mix of warm weather, a strong commerce and strategic international locations has made Miami the host of world prestigious, Mercedes- Benz Fashion Week Swim. As a Company Kalix mission is to provide customers possibility to feel pretty, sexy and comfortable in their own skin either you are size zero or size twenty two without sacrifice fashion. That’s why the “Sleek Koture” line is offering to our customers an exclusive mix of textiles that includes premium spandex/ nylon to flatter the body contour, lined with extra support, without being uncomfortable in a attractive colorful prints and exclusive designs available in both lines (swimwear and shapers).
