Production DesignerBy Deshon ButlerProduction Designer is a position that has been around since the beginning of time when it comes to theater, screenplays, films and television. The production designer works closely under the supervision of the director in charge of current production. The “PD” develops, coordinates, facilitates, and oversees the over all design of the production for anything that will appear in front of the camera. The PD has to set the tone for the production and take it upon their selves to supervisemake up, hair, and wardrobedepartments and consultants to the camera, art director, special effects and compositing departments as well. To have a successful production there has to be a responsible PD who can take charge when need be and act as the guard dog for the director to make sure production goes to plan with no issues that can’t be fixed. It is up to the production designer to make sure that if there are any situations that come up,can be solved without any disruption to production. The PD also has to have and bachelors degree in film. This is just to prove that the PD is certified with the necessary motor skills to provide adequate results needed to be successful in the film and theater field. With any production you need proper planning and the right team to make it happen. A party planner acts as a production designer.
