Write a memo that communicates the budget situation to the rest of the team. Memo To: Team Members on the Compensation / Benefits Project From: Director of Human Resources Date: 6/16/2013 Re: Budgetary concerns related to the revamp Compensation/Benefits package. While assessing the budget details of the Compensation and Benefits package project some concerns have been raised, that the budget is depleting quicker than expected. This issue is related to specific target dates that have not been met. In order to find a quick resolution to this problem, I am calling for a meeting to be held immediately in Conference Room H. This meeting will address the budget issues and how we can improve the situation. I would like to for each team member representative to analyze their place within the project and to verify if you are on schedule. This is a sound way to keep the project from over budgeting itself. It is very important that each member utilize their time wisely and focus on meeting the company goals and standards. Addressing this situation will possibly prevent the budget from going too far off course by eliminating or adjusting the amount of some items. We share the responsibility...

...PROJECTS AND PEOPLE ASSESSMENT 2 – LEADERSHIP ESSAY Part # 1 Project management refers to a systematic and planned attempt to achieve a specified unique task. For instance, constructing a new modern architect building or implementing TQM in a manufacturing organization or organizing an international event, all this need to structured, planned and well-organized. Since different projects are conducted and managed by people, and are involved in the whole project process, i.e. from initiating to conclusion. Thus, the project management domain not only needs a well-organized and competent manager, but also a good effective leader who will lead the team in most efficacious manner. The essay elaborate and addresses the importance, necessity and role of leadership, discussing how it works and ways to enhance the effectiveness of project teams. Salas, Dickinson, Converse and Tannenbaum (1992) stated a good definition of 'team' as; A distinguishable set of two or more people interact, interdependently towards the common goal and mission, and have been assigned unique and specified role to perform, and who got a limited life span of membership. This refers to a higher interdependency among team members. This interdependence needs communication and harmonization among its members to achieve team goals. Thus, the success of team requires appropriate individual member contribution and best way in which these contributions combined into team response. (Hinsz, Tindale, & Vollrath...

...The Project Team Leader is the individual with responsibility for ensuring that the project is planned and executed. The Project Leader does not do all the work of project management, that is shared among the Core Team Members. However, the Project Leader does ensure that the work of project management is carried out on the project. The Project Leader is normally the individual who leads the Core Team meetings and is normally the individual who speaks for the project in project review meetings with the PMO or senior management. The Project Leader is also the person responsible for maintaining the project plan and the current project status and any associated project management documentation or databases. Finally, the Project Leader needs to review all major project decisions to ensure they are in the best interests of the project objectives. When the Project Leader believes a decision is inappropriate, he or she must take action to change or elevate the decision. Over the years I have found that effective Project Leaders have mastered two vital aspects of project management. The first is Risk Management. The Project Leader must ensure that project risks are identified and analyzed, and not suppressed or overlooked. In addition the Project Leader should verify that risk response plans are established and implemented for all significant risks. The second aspect of project management that the Project Leader must do well is Project Communication. The Project Leader must manage...

...The head of the organization is responsible for making decisions and he/she should not let their emotions get in the way of what is best for the organization. As seen in the case of Valley, a former player of Wooden who owns a business and coped with the death of his daughter while conducting business (Edelhauser, 2007). Wooden stresses that knowing the people that work under you can help them in understanding how to care for an organization as a whole rather than for their own interests. ...A. Clayton Professor: Dr. Hakim B. Allah Project Management Leadership BUS 518 July 21, 2012 “Applied Research Technologies, Inc.” 1. Determine the leadership style that Peter Vyas exhibited as he considered the group’s proposal and provide examples of his behavior. Of the four leadership styles, participative, consultative, delegative, and directive, discussed in Lewis’ book Project Leadership, Peter Vyas exhibited a participative leadership style. The manner and approach Peter Vyas used when providing direction, implementing plans, and motivating his team exhibited traits of a participative leader. This particular style of leadership involves the inclusion of one or more employees in the decision making process when determining what to do and how to do it. One example of Vyas participative leadership style was him listening to his team and backing their recommendation to develop a “small-scale oxidation system that enabled waste-water disinfection in small batches” (Custom Book, 2011, p. 6). Once Vyas decided to go forth with the project, he convinced other business units to assist by allowing members of their departments to become team members. Throughout this case were examples of Vyas participative leadership as demonstrated in statements like “The team decided to refocus a second-generation product on specialized applications in Western countries where funding was more available. “. . . The team decided to recommend a retail price of $2,000 ($1...

...Leadership Behaviors in Project Design Offices Esin Kasapoğlu1 Abstract: Leadership may be defined as the ability to collect a group of people around definite objectives and the achievement of said objectives. An architectural design team needs a leader, and in this paper, the owner of the office is the formal leader. Leadership behaviors of employer architects are directly related to the performance of the design team; therefore, effective leadership is key to a successful design process. Data were collected through a questionnaire on leadership behaviors that was distributed to 40 architects from different design offices in Turkey. Leadership behaviors were gathered into two main groups—delegation of authority and managerial orientation. The significant positive correlations are between authoritarian and task-oriented leadership, and between participative, achievement-oriented and employeeoriented leadership. The position of leader-architects and the age and size of offices are directly related to leadership behaviors. The results show that although leaders of project design teams indicated that participation was important, they actually preferred task-oriented leadership. It will also determine the most appropriate leadership style during the project environment described within the case. In conclusion, the assignment will describe my personal leadership style and one of my bosses. Applied Research Technologies, Inc. Introduction The brief case given, Applied Research Technologies, Inc., displayed many characteristics of leadership styles. The main roles described were by the project manager, Peter Vyas, and his boss, Cynthia Jackson. Throughout the case, each of them experienced scenarios that exemplified their unique style. ...Project teams are multifaceted inter-reliant structures that must be analyzed and deconstructed in order to ensure success. To establish effective project teams a leadership structure optimizing maximum results must be agreed upon. According to a study done by Drexel University analyzing effective leadership styles to produce effective project teams, “[…] effective leadership style will reduce attrition rates, achieve organizational goals and optimize employee performance and productivity which are essential […] in this ‘global competitive environment’[…].
