LGBT Community and the Military The military is not compatible with having women in the military or ensuring the safety of women and some men in the military. How can the Department of Defense be compatible with being a safe and welcoming environment for the LGBT service members? In my honest opinion, the military is not knowledgeable with the civilian world enough to ensure safety or enforce the safety. There are so many service members and their families that are currently not being protected from sexual assault, sexual harassment and abuse that the military cannot protect the LGBT service members. I am glad that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is no longer in existence but I think that the Department of Defense should be stricter on the current issues in within their military world before adding on a new challenge. There is no way they can ensure or be compatible with safety if they cannot handle the issues that are apparent now. This is like saying “Let’s vote in the presidential candidate they has the most well known negative family problems publicized to run our nation.” Although, the civilian life doesn’t have an affect on the military world but the scenario of safety and protection are the ideal need in both world. In a documentary we saw in class the a male service member discussed how he was raped by male service men. If this can happen to a heterosexual male what do you think they would have done to a homosexual service
