In the video, “inside the world of childhood schizophrenia”, posted by ABC News, the journey of two families whose children have been diagnosed with schizophrenia are chronicled. In the first family, the parents assumed something may have been wrong with their child, Jenny, after only a few months when she failed to sleep through the night, instead waking every thirty to forty minutes each night. By the time Jenny was 3 years old, she was very verbal about her seventy-three imaginary friends, many of whom would hit or pinch her when ‘they’ were unhappy. Jenny reported being able to feel her imaginary friends hitting and pinching her in her brain. When Jenny’s little brother was born, she didn’t know how to accept him in her life and constantly attempted to hit or bite him. Jenny would also tell her parents that her imaginary friends were telling her to hit her little brother. As a result of Jenny’s attempted to hurt her little brother, Jenny’s parents have been forced to live in two separate apartments, one for Jenny and one for her brother, with the parents splitting their time between the two locations to care for their children.
The second child, Rebecca, is seven and has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. At the age of five, she tried to slit her wrists with a hair clip in order to quite the voices in her head. She has been in and out of hospitals nine times and is currently taking Thorazine. When asked “what is it like to be you?” Rebecca responds “I hate it! I hate being Rebecca and I hate my life. I hate having things in my head.” Rebecca and her family are currently engaged in long-term family therapy in order to cope with and manage Rebecca’s disorder.
This video was incredibly interesting as the majority of material published on schizophrenia addresses manifestations and interventions for adults. Being able to learn more about the struggle that children face with schizophrenia provides a more rounded and deeper understanding of the ways in which schizophrenia can manifest, develop, and be treated.

...schedule to where they feel that they have nothing left to give, and the fact that she had to, forced her to create more time and energy that was not there. She felt that she had nothing else to give for herself, and as a result, she deprived herself of personal focus. According to Bandura: [The effects of reinforcement] depend largely on our awareness of the relationship between our behavior and its outcomes. What is fundamentally important is our ability to figure out cause-and-effect relationships and to anticipate the outcomes of our behaviors. (LeFrancois, 2011, para. 14) Tasha was placed in an environment where she felt that diet and exercise were not possible. Again, as a mother, I understand what she was going through. One can psych their self out into believing that something is not possible, especially when it comes to hard work, and putting in the effort to get the results that are necessary. Briefly describe which approaches to motivation you feel best help us to understand the change in Tasha’s behavior. I feel that Tasha’s motivation can be related to psychological hedonism, because she is searching for a mentally and physically healthier person (pleasure), by joining support groups and exercising regularly. Tasha is also trying to prevent possible depression and a loveless marriage (pain). In what ways was emotion tied to the weight gain and loss? I believe that emotion is the main cause to Tasha’s weight gain and weight loss. Without emotion, we feel...

Abstract Although older adults are thought to experience more stress and to be more vulnerable to its adverse effects, they often report less stress than younger adults and sometimes show more resilience. Paradoxically, while stress sometimes has long-term positive effects on well-being, studies differ as to whether this increases or decreases with age. We conclude that older individuals have learned to appraise and cope differently with stress. This protects them in spite of their increased physiological vulnerability and may also increase the possibility of stress-related growth and optimal aging. Managing Healthcare

...including: the right to a public education, access to public roads, and the right to health care for those living in poverty. There are no guarantees when it comes to life, but having health insurance makes a huge difference with preventing, diagnosing, and treating diseases. Of course having insurance itself is a great resource to ensure medical care and containing costs, but not all insurance programs are created equal. Insurance programs have caveats, exclusions, varying co-payments, and access to certain doctors and hospitals, which creates an ethical dilemma. Although those living in poverty are given access to healthcare, that does not mean they receive the best or equal care as those who are wealthy. ...human services field is because I would like to work in the mental health field working with children and their families. I would like to use my medical knowledge that I have gained from medical assisting and from working closely with other medical professionals, such as physicians, nurses, unit secretaries and nurse practitioners. My reasoning for this is because I want to use what I have been through and deal with on a daily basses with a child that has many mental issues. I feel that it is very important to know that there are others that deal with these types of things and that they are not alone. I have been on a three year long battle of trying to get my child the proper care and treatment that she truly needed. It is very hard to deal and except that a family member has a mental condition, it’s even harder when is a child especially your own. Reproductive Health Promotion Project

...Erectile Dysfunction Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common forms of male reproductive health problems. Most men do not discuss their erectile dysfunction, although if they would, they would discover that there are reasonable treatment options available that can enhance their relational life. Responsibility

...is not what we say, but it is how we say it. A quality education and career training are sound investments for a bright future, an illustrious career, and a successful life. Individuals who complete more years of education have greater access to higher paying jobs-such as management, professional, and related occupations than those with fewer years of education. “Where one goes to college can have effects on one's future education, occupation, and income” (Karen, 2002, p. 193). Self-discipline, sacrifice, patience, perseverance, and positive attitude should be sufficient motivating factors, and a reminder that a good education pays off eventually by reaping the fruits of hard work. Physical well-being, personal wellness, and good health are part of personal responsibility. “Participation in physical activity should remain a high priority to facilitate maintenance of healthy body weights” (Liebman, 2005, p. 95). Personal drive, ambition, and desire to succeed are necessary attributes that help in overcoming any obstacles. Volunteering, part of personal responsibility requires time, and flexibility to help less fortunate members of the community, and may work in homeless shelters, children’s, and nursing homes, hospitals, churches, correctional institutions, and schools. The Importance of Socialisation

The more events that a child encounters and has positive reactions to, the better response he/she will have when these events are repeated throughout the course of life. It is important that you make the socialization process as entertaining and rewarding as you possibly can. This means that during this process, your infant will need to accept being handled and being touched by other humans so that she will not fear strangers (healthcare providers, or people whom they are introduced to.) This will prove beneficial when you have to take the infant to the health clinic per se. Make sure that all the experiences a child is introduced to are pleasurable experiences.
