My Purpose In Life The literal meaning of the word “purpose” is “the reason for which something exists or is done, made, or used.” I believe my purpose is to follow the footsteps of the Lord. I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic grade, middle, and high school. Both my parents are Catholic and I am very thankful for having a solid moral “ground” for which I was able to grow on. I went to Christian camp for 9 years growing up and it was there that I really found my purpose in life. Surrounded by young adults as my counselors and mentors, I was able to easily relate to them and was set a good example of how I want to be when I am their age. I am their age now and I feel like I am on the right track but it is an ongoing journey to fulfill my goal of following the Lord in most everything I do. My mother always used to say, “Do one random act of kindness everyday”. She told me it was a way to give back to the Lord for all the blessings and gifts he gave me. That is one way I do to reach my purpose. Another way is going to church. There are many things I do not agree with in the Catholic Church but it is the closest way I feel I get close to the Lord. Going to church makes me feel like I am better suited to fulfilling my goal. I use it as a “refresher course” or reminder of what I need to do to be a happy person. I’ve been though stages of my life when I greatly doubted the Lord. Whenever I am in doubt, looking through my bible at some of my favorite passages and verses helps get back on the right track. Faith journeys are always an ongoing rollercoaster, but these are a few ways I do to reach and succeed in fulfilling my purpose in life.

These values that I find most important are integrity, respect and awareness. With work, my goals are to keep challenging myself and find a career that fits me the best. This career should be a fast paced, customer oriented and plenty of opportunities to continue to learn. Currently, I’m part of a planning and research team that evaluates flood risk and propose potential mitigation solutions. I have been able to excel in my position because I have applied my values consistency through all of my work. When evaluating flood risk, a lot of the data used is sensitive information therefore having integrity is essential since people need to trust me with this information. Additionally, flood risk resiliency planning involves many stakeholders, therefore prioritizing respect when communicating with others is essential for working together. Lastly, flood risk management involves both a qualitative evaluation approach and a quantitative analysis. By having awareness for others, I believe it has helped me to develop solutions that take in to consideration the many impacts that a massive...

Purpose of Brochure

...Purpose of Brochure The main purpose of the brochure is to inform potential customers about the business, and what sorts of products they sell. Panel 1 – This panel is essentially the most significant as it is the first part of the brochure that potential customers will see. Panel 1 contains a small amount of text, with four images and a bold, eye-catching WordArt title. I feel that it is purposeful because the images represent the products which are sold within the shop, and the text offers a brief overview of what sorts of products the shop sells. Panel 2 – The purpose of Panel 2 is to provide the potential customers with details on how to contact the business, should they want to. It contains the address of the business, an email address, and a telephone/fax number. There is also a map of Llangollen showing where ‘Cottage Cards and Crafts’ is located. Panel 3 – It informs potential customers about the business, with minimal text so that it does not look overloaded with text (which could put people off viewing it). It also contains 3 images of Llangollen within panel 3, which are purposeful because ‘Cottage Cards & Crafts’ is located in Llangollen. Panel 4 – The purpose of panel 4 is to convey a small amount of information about lovespoons. There is also 2 images on that panel; one of lovespoons and one of a welsh dragon. They are purposeful because ‘Cottage Cards & Crafts’ sell welsh lovespoons. Panel 5 - This panel contains a combination of text and images...

Special Purpose Vehicle

...Special purpose vehicle (SPV) is a legal entity – one of the financial structures, which is formed solely for a narrow, single, particular and specific purpose. Subsidiary might be a special form of SPV that exists before SPV, can stop liability, and have freedom of actions to do business like Philip Morris. Though, the difference between SPV and subsidiary is the full function in controlling the business. Subsidiary has completely full function while SPV does not do full range of business. In general, SPV is typically used by companies to isolate the firm from financial risk, to hide debt or ownership, to minimize bankruptcy risk and obscure relationships between different entities that are in fact related to each other. Commonly, because of the financial risk of a large project, the company will transfer assets to the SPV for management and narrow the risks by putting the entire firm at stake. Most importantly, SPV is formed as a separate company that theoretically has no connection with the sponsor. In order words, the owner of SPV legally must show no relationship to the main company. Furthermore, besides all of the reasons listed above of establishing a SPV, securitization is a must known, which is used to securitize loans. Asset securitization provides another way for a company to raise cash in the capital markets as well as transfer risk of default on high-risk debt, such as credit card receivables. If asset securitization could be a desirable way for a company to raise...

Special Purpose Entities

...United States Financial Accounting Standards Board. A VIE refers to an entity (the investee) in which the investor holds a controlling interest that is not based on the majority of voting rights. As long as the investee is not the primary beneficiary then they do have to consolidate the company on their balance sheet. 2. How did we determine whether an entity need to be consolidated before FIN 45? Before FIN 45, “Many financial institutions were secondarily liable (without adequate disclosures) for many financial instruments held in special purpose entities” (Reinstein, 2012). The old consolidation framework used a common-sense approach, where a company should consolidate operations when they had a controlling ownership interest in another. Controlling abilities were tough to recognize and led to many unconsolidated statements. a. Explain how FIN 46 modified the guidance on VIEs. Originally FIN 46 focused only on special purpose entities and required a reporting enterprise to consolidate them. Soon FASB changed it where FIN 46 should apply to all entities where a VIE exists. Part of this decision involves more judgment now according to sec.gov. There is no bright line test and all facts and circumstances, qualitative and quantitative, should be considered. b. Explain how SFAS 167 has modified the guidance on VIEs. Under GAAP, a company must consolidate any entity in which it has a “controlling interest.” This term was long defined as ownership of more than 50%...

Newman Texas Wesleyan Law School This working paper is hosted by The Berkeley Electronic Press (bepress) and may not be commercially reproduced without the permission of the copyright holder. http://law.bepress.com/expresso/eps/1165 Copyright c 2006 by the author. Enron and the Special Purpose Entity. Use or Abuse? The Real Problem - The Real Focus Abstract In December of 2001, Enron Corporation filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code; one of the largest corporate bankruptcy filings at that time. When the investigations commenced and the tangled Enron web was unraveled, it was discovered that Enron had perpetrated a very sophisticated form of accounting fraud through its repeated use of what are referred to as Special Purpose Entities (“SPEs”). In their most basic forms, SPEs are business entities formed for the purpose of conducting a well specified activity such as construction of a gas pipeline, or collection of a specific group of accounts receivable. However, because of their complex nature, SPEs can be used to manipulate a corporation’s financial results, which was the primary use for which Enron employed the SPE structure. As a result, the investment and financial community has cast a dark cloud over the special purpose entity, depicting the SPE as an inherently evil structure whose only purpose is to defraud, obfuscate and manipulate...

...Purpose Of Life About ten years ago I was working so much I forgot about my health, family and friends. Somewhere along the road of shooting to become a successful business owner I lost track of what was most important. My dream somehow turned into a reality of being stressed out, and unhappy. It finally hit me...... Work had become my life's purpose. Like so many other entrepreneurs, I started my business for a chance at freedom and opportunity to be the master of my own destiny. I had visions of success and money, and with that I believed I could one day finally be happy. But the reality was I was not happy. I was miserable. I won't bare you with business concepts, but there is one important concept I learned that changed my life and I want to share it with you. All great companies have four things: purpose, vision, mission and care values. I asked myself, why can't I apply these ideas to my life? So I did, and here's how you can apply it to. Your life's purpose is the reason why you exist. It's the reason for being. Let me ask you again, because it's in my humble opinion, the most important question you could ever ask yourself – why do you exist? In the past, if you asked me what my life's purpose was – I would have told you it was to make lots of money. Believe me, there's nothing wrong with making money, but for myself, I finally realized it was not the reason why I exist. It was only an enabler at best. Finding your life's purpose is very much about...

Design Liability

...Design Responsibility under Design and Construct Contracts: Some issues for Principals Introduction There are a number of reasons design and construct (D&C) contracts are attractive to principals and lenders. There is a single point of responsibility for both design and construction aspects of the project, the principal is able to fast track the project although not all aspects of the construction are complete, there is greater certainty of price and the contractor is involved from the earliest stage in planning design and programming. In consequence, the principal will need to accept a higher price for the contractor to take on this additional risk compared to more traditional construct only contracts. This paper will identify some issues for principals to consider when allocating design responsibility to contractors within a D&C project. These issues arise as the design and construct process involves a fundamental conflict of interest. Principals desire to have constructed a product of the best quality for the lowest possibly price. The contractor on the other hand is more likely to make a higher profit if the product is of a lower quality (and therefore cost) and a higher price (as opposed to costs). In addition, although a greater proportion of design risk is placed on the contractor, this passing of risk is often accompanied by the abrogation of responsibility and loss of control. The paper will refer to the approaches of 3 standard form contracts -...

What Is Organizational Design?

...needs, functions, and goals. When considering the best design, one must first define the purpose of the company. All other features of the company’s organizational methods should center around fulfilling this purpose. A company whose purpose is centered around helping others, for example, would need a very different design than a company that is technologically focused. If both companies were to utilize the same design principles, one or both would be operating well below their optimum potential. In addition to considering the purpose of the company, organizational design must also evaluate the skills and purposes of the individual employees. A creative company may thrive with a loose organizational system, ample opportunities for free brainstorming, and playful incentives. A company with more left-brained individuals may do better with a rigid, well-defined structure. Most situations will call for a unique blend of these methods. A company’s organizational design also serves to define the chain of command and division of labor within the group. It determines who each individual reports to, what various departments are responsible for, and how everyone works together. The best designs typically allow for plentiful communication both between managers and employees as well as between various divisions of the company. Many consulting firms specialize in organizational design. Their purpose is to look at a company’s performance, methodology, and...
