Hate is one of the most prominent human emotions featured in today’s society; it stems from things such as jealousy, it has biological and neurological roots, and originated as the contempt God’s enemies had for him. Today’s society has become hate-driven, and many scientists and professors have decided it’s up to them to find out why. Determining the reasoning behind hate will open up doors to a more willing mind to accept the things seemingly undesirable.
Like a cavity, hate rots the human brain until there is nothing left but contempt, and “It is said that for every positive statement a child hears, he receives ten that are negative” (DeWitt, 2017, p. 2). These hateful thoughts and feelings, according to Jim Mohr (2009) of Gonzaga University,…show more content… (Robinson 2008). The insula deals with motor control where hand-eye coordination is involved (Insular cortex, 2017), the putamen plays a role in the perception of contempt and disgust (Putamen, 2017), and the frontal cortex is one of the four major lobes of the cerebral cortex, which contains the dopamine-sensitive neurons associated with reward, attention, short-term memory tasks, panning, and motivation. (Frontal lobe, 2017) It is said that all of these parts of the brain work together to take action when a person feels hate, working off of one another to complete the task at hand;…show more content… The parts of the “hate circuit” active in the brain are linked with love as well, and it is believed that the line between love and hate are much thinner than one would naturally assume. In fact, “love and hate are intimately linked within the human brain” (Connor, 2008, p. 1).“One major difference between love and hate appears to be in the fact that large parts of the cerebral cortex – associated with judgement and reasoning – become de-activated during love, whereas only a small area is deactivated in hate” says Professor Zeki (Connor, 2008, p. 1).
From Professor Zeki’s research, it becomes clear that there is more to hate than originally believed. One of the key differences between love and hate is that “Unlike romantic love, which is directed at one person, hate can be directed against entire individuals or groups, as is the case with racial, political, or gender hatred” Professor Zeki said (Brain's 'hate circuit' identified, 2012, p.
