Any new marketing campaign should follow its own targets, whether attraction of new customers, retention of current customers (reinforcement of their loyalty), strengthening the positioning of the company or repositioning. As a marketing idea and slogan “You are the reason we fly”, it is extremely good, as it is full of personal approach, individualization, very close connected with the traveler, and for any traveler it would be great to know that HE is the VERY REASON, that something is going on because of HIM. That is definitely a great approach for current customers, to reinforce their loyalty and feel the part of the airlines. I reckon most part of the loyal customers would love to be on the side of Qantas airplanes, and to be on their web-site and to be totally involved into this campaign, this is called the strength of the brand. Of course, the idea is not new, and it really good, that the management admitted it in the interview: “There are some analogies to what Coke did, which was a great campaign, and also Bonds, but we’ve got our own twists on that”, but it will always touch people, when the campaign is devoted to them, but not made around the brand itself.
The target audience of the campaign is really big. But, also a huge segment of the participants will be teenagers and young people under 20, unable to pay for the tickets. Their aim is to get to any social event, to become popular in a class, among their friends, and it is also a big fun to use photo kiosks at Westfield shopping centres in Chatswood (July 5-8), Bondi Junction (July 12-15) and Doncaster (July 12-15) where people can get a hair and make-up ‘touch up’ and a professional photo to be used to participate in the campaign.
What is the objective of people to be involved in it, if they are used to fly with another airline or he is one of those passengers, whose flight was canceled last year? I

Jetstar said although the flight landed safely in clear conditions, the airline was taking the incident very seriously and was working with the bureau. "The pilots reported that on approach an incorrect autopilot setting resulted in the aircraft going off its pre-determined track." The aircraft dropped to 1920m for a short time when it should have been flying at 2225m. "This never put the aircraft in danger and the incident didn't trigger any cockpit alerts. The pilots realised the error and corrected it promptly," a Jetstar spokesman said. The two pilots, who had a combined total of 23,000 hours' experience and had been flying to and from Queenstown for the past two years without incident, reported the incident to Jetstar and to the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA), Australia's equivalent of the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority.
