Tuesdays with Morrie Reflection Paper
From reading the book Tuesday with Morrie, I found that the book addresses the fundamental issue that our society and our human race is dealing with as a whole: humans sacrifice their own life to learn money just to use that money later in life for nothing or to save their own life that was squandered for nothing. Upon reading the book about the accounts that Morrie is spending his last days in showing his dearest student Mitch about the meaning of life, I found that the reason why most of the time Morrie centered around the concept of relationship, love, compassion, forgiveness, money, regrets, death, and many other concepts is because many times he tries to address the fundamental issue that humans spend their time pursuing things that they don’t want or need but something they felt will help them be approved in a society just to find out that they regret what they done later and wish to make it better.
Upon reading this book and learning about life through the perspective of a dying college professor, I found, and already found, that I personally want to be like that college professor one day where I can be intimate with every single client and students that I have in my career because I know that one day I will die either because of a natural death or a man-made one and I know that whatever the cause of death, I want every human being that meets me to know one thing about myself: I love you as my own little child and that all of you are my children just like how I am yours.
How do I accomplish this feat before I die or during my time working on my business and my career? First, from what Morrie talked about finding the career and doing the things that matters to you most, one of the things that I will do is to find volunteer and job opportunities where I work directly with children (since children are the age population that I cared about the most). When I look through the job opportunities that provides me the access towards working with children, I found my job is most suited for the Therapeutic Recreation occupation and that what I will do for now is to get the training needed to first learn to lead programs and create programs that are effective towards helping children achieve their desired goal and second, to help induce them to go beyond their limitations. However, when I looked back at my overall plan, I felt that was not enough either.
Furthering into my unfolding plan, I will find out about how to incorporate love, empathy, and other forms of compassion into my practice of being a life coach or even a recreational therapist in such a way that will help children overcome their limitations. How will I do this? Through volunteering. In going through the organizations like Amala Foundation and other organizations where the “therapist” and the children come in with their own personal vulnerabilities and will to learn from one another. By going there and learning how they transform lives that have been hurt, I will have the opportunity to know what it takes to help a child overcome a mental disorder like autism and ADHD or anything else. Thus, in knowing how powerful love is and how far I must go before creating my personal business, it’s contributing to my overall plan: to give children a second chance to make changes in the world.
In looking at how I have created my plan in helping children through the perspective of Morrie from the book Tuesday with Morrie, I know that the program that I will create for children will help them get a new life and think differently about the world. The only question that needs to be asked is: how can I market my own plan to the children in this generation?
