Queen Liliuokalani named her heir to the throne of Hawaii on April 10th, 1877, and was proclaimed queen on January 29th, 1891. It came to her attention that the United States had invaded her country unlawfully. In return, she wrote a letter protesting her country’s land to the United States Representative. She demanded, “I call upon the President and the National Legislation and the People of the United States to do justice in this matter and restore to me this property.”. In 1887, the Queen’s brother stood on the throne. That same year, non-native U.S. businessmen with sugar interests forced the King to sign a new constitution, the Bayonet Constitution, with threats of violence if reprimanded. When the
