I, Rashelle A. Rogers, was born in Tampa, Florida on March 30, 1974 to Roosevelt and Brenda Rogers. The memory of my early childhood is very vague. I remember the story that my parents told me regarding an allergic reaction to spoiled milk at day care at age one. The story goes that I was hospitalized for a month and when I left the hospital no one thought I was going to make another day. Upon my arrival home, a neighbor told Brenda and Roosevelt about an Asian alternative medicine clinic. My parent took me to the clinic and the doctor place me on some type of herbal diet and I began to put on weight and show signs that I was among the living and “God is with me,” mom would say. Around the age of two, I had fallen out of a two-story window while mother was asleep and almost hit a rock by a few inches. One neighbor rush up to get mother from upstairs while another went to check to see if I was hurt. I was fine and I was laughing as well as the story has been told to me and father would say, “It must be that God is with you.” From around 3-5 years old, I stayed with both sets of grandparents with one set for six months and then the other set for six months in Jacksonville, Florida. I begin to have problems with the literal interpretation of the Bible when I was a child. I could be anything I wanted to be at home and school but not at church. I could not go certain places or do certain things because I was a girl. This is when I remember father’s parents taking me to West Union Missionary Baptist Church.
