...D. and Susan Lang, was a very enjoyable and enlightening book to read. Some of the qualities the book included were a clear, direct tone and style which was positive yet assertive at the same time. I also enjoyed the format the book was arranged in because it helped with further organizing a lot of the detailed information it provided. Overall, I would give this book a grade of an A-. The tones in which the authors composed the book were positive and assertive. Thase and Lang assert that people’s lives are not either full of joy or full of sorrow and even people who are subjected to the most awful traumas do not always become depressed, instead a lot of people are just victimized by their self-incriminating thoughts or the absolute blame they place towards the rest of the world for their suffering (59). Even though this is portrayed as the bitter truth in the book, Thase and Lang reassure the reader that there are solutions and resources that can assist someone who tends to follow this downward spiral of thinking. The first positive solution that they uphold is for the sufferer to refuse to do absolutely nothing because it is the main way of living for people who suffer from dysthymia (Thase and Lang, 76). They argue, “…Behave purposefully [even if it is] just one small step at a time,” because taking such small steps, or what I like to call “baby steps”, still have value upon the individual and the world due to their increase of effectiveness (Thase and Lang, 76). After all...

...To what extent has popular music culture challenged dominant gender norms? Critically analyse with reference to relevant literature and examples Traditional dominant gender norms state that women are feminine in appearance, including everything from their hair down to their shoes and of course their demeanour, voice and behaviour. The traditional man would be that who is strong and rugged with a deep voice and who is overtly masculine without a hint of make up or traditionally feminine clothing. It has been decades since these norms have begun to alter and be challenged as both sexes began experimenting with gender and identity through the medium of music. By looking at different music genres throughout the ages I will attempt to show how popular music has broken down social barriers and in my opinion has succeeded in challenging gender norms to a point where the perceptions of what is socially acceptable have been altered. Before delving into the world of rock and roll it is noteworthy that the music industry was like any other business, a typically male environment in which women were not expected to survive. The music industry and specifically the Rock genre were sexually focused from the very early stages, as far back as the 40’s and 50’s. Rock music posed a question of morality and was perceived as shocking and dangerous because of its explicit sexual overtones. An example of these first steps in the scene would be Elvis whose gold, tight outfits and pelvic thrusts...

It is discussed how Mrs. Obama urged the manufactures of many of the processed foods to cooperate with the government on new food labels, and to take a serious approach about reining in junk food marketed towards America’s children. There is some debate in such that some observers put the blame on political realities in addition to the question as to whether the goals of public health and the food industry are at irreconcilable odds. ...June 9, 2013 Text: Romans 12:3- 8 3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully. TOPIC: I belong to God's family INTRODUCTION: As we celebrate our 5th Anniversary, the church is going through with many things. In spite of all those things we choose to have this theme for the whole year! I BELONG! We hope and pray that all of us will be part of this wonderful event and by God's grace everyone who will come here and visit our church will not just be a visitor but they will be part of the family, not just a part but be a member of the family, because they feel that they belong. The most recent legislation brought in to help dyslexic students is the Equality Act in 2010 which requires all schools to have an action plan put in place to create equal opportunities for all students with a disability including dyslexia. BELB, 2011:145 created a structure for a dyslexia friendly classroom that focuses on 5 main areas which include ethos and culture, partnerships, staff training, school policy and identification, assessment and monitoring. Utilising these 5 key factors can ensure that children with dyslexia are included within the classroom environment. The ‘No’ to Failure’ report that was released in 2009 gives a very precise outline of what is needed in order for teachers to become more confident in teaching children with dyslexia and providing teachers support from other specialist teachers to gain more knowledge and experience in the area. The report set up training programmes that look at different areas of teaching a child the spLD with the courses providing knowledge on dyslexia itself, support during reading and writing, using multi-sensory approaches and creating a more dyslexia friendly...

...submissive and be willing to do it. We cannot have a bad attitude when we decide to humble ourselves before God. There are so many different things that we can fast. We do not only have to fast food but we can also fast from media. Fasting brings us closer to God and it strengths our relationship with him. When we fast we are doing it to please God. When we are fasting, we cannot think that we are being starved from something or that something is being taken away from us. We are disciplining ourselves and separating from the world. “We are causing the natural body with its natural human desires to be submitted to the spiritual man within us (Malcomson, Fasting).” There are many different ways that we can fast. People can fast together as a group or even fast on different days throughout the week. You can also do a fast by yourself. In the bible, we are supposed to work and help one another. We need to be a untified and glorified body of Christ. If there is no unity in a church, it will fall apart. Fasting is biblical, and just because it is not required in the bible does not mean that we should not partake in it. Our flesh needs to be disciplined. If Jesus can remain on the cross for three days we can fast a day for the Lord. When you are doing a media fast, you are refraining from using the internet. That means Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc. This is great because you are disconnecting yourself from the world. When you feel the urge to go online, pick up your bible and read it...

...language, and problem solving. This paper will explain the purpose of each cognitive processes. This paper will also summarize and evaluate the studies of these cognitive processes and also the research methodology that they focus on. Cognitive processes are very important for human behavior. It is about the knowledge and the way people use his or her knowledge. Cognitive processes affect individuals in everyday life, often occurring within fractions of a second. EXPLAIN THE PURPOSE OF EACH COGNITIVE PROCESS Language is used to communicate feelings, thoughts, and ideas effectively. The use of language begins at a very young age, some would agree before birth. Language is spoken in a mixture of techniques from oral, to sign language to body language. In language there is a collection of terms, which is related to a particular topic, and the collection of terms is identified as a lexicon. Language and lexicon mutually combined because of the recollection of vocabulary or verbal communication, which transmits to cognitive psychology because the occurrence of lexical judgments in processing vocabulary in the cognitive mind. The main aspects of verbal communication are communicative, uninformed, controlled, generative, and self-motivated. The communicative part of language is the speech between two individuals. The uniformed part is the relationship between verbal communication and their meaning. The controlled part of verbal communication is the term "used to illustrate the way...

...Intertextuality is the shaping of a text meaning by another text. Intertextual figures include: allusion, quotation, calque, plagiarism, translation, pastiche and parody.[1][2][3] An example of intertextuality is an author’s borrowing and transformation of a prior text or to a reader’s referencing of one text in reading another. The term “intertextuality” has, itself, been borrowed and transformed many times since it was coined by poststructuralist Julia Kristeva in 1966. As philosopher William Irwin wrote, the term “has come to have almost as many meanings as users, from those faithful to Kristeva’s original vision to those who simply use it as a stylish way of talking about allusion and influence.”[4] Contents [show] Intertextuality and poststructuralism[edit] Kristeva’s coinage of “intertextuality” represents an attempt to synthesize Ferdinand de Saussure’s semiotics—his study of how signs derive their meaning within the structure of a text—with Bakhtin’s dialogism—his examination of the multiple meanings, or “heteroglossia”, in each text (especially novels) and in each word.[5] For Kristeva,[6] “the notion of intertextuality replaces the notion of intersubjectivity” when we realize that meaning is not transferred directly from writer to reader but instead is mediated through, or filtered by, “codes” imparted to the writer and reader by other texts. For example, when we read James Joyce’s Ulysses we decode it as a modernist literary experiment, or as a response to the...

...In physics, acceleration is the rate at which the velocity of a body changes with time.[1] In general, velocity and acceleration are vectorquantities, with magnitude and direction,[2][3] though in many cases only magnitude is considered (sometimes with negative values for deceleration). Acceleration is accompanied by a force, as described by Newton's Second Law; the force, as a vector, is the product of the mass of the object being accelerated and the acceleration (vector). The SI unit of acceleration is the meter per second squared (m/s2). For example, an object such as a car that starts from standstill, then travels in a straight line at increasing speed, is accelerating in the direction of travel. If the car changes direction at constant speedometer reading, there is strictly speaking an acceleration although it is often not so described; passengers in the car will experience a force pushing them back into their seats in linear acceleration, and a sideways force on changing direction. If the speed of the car decreases, it is usual and meaningful to speak of deceleration; mathematically it is acceleration in the opposite direction to that of motion. Acceleration is a vector quantity, so it has a magnitude and a direction. The sign of a vector quantity indicates the direction that the vector is pointing. Acceration = dV/dT or change in velocity/change in time Positive acceleration means that the change in velocity over change in time is positive, so the object is accelerating...

...Dear Sir/Madam, I was inspired by a speech by the famous financial researcher and commenter Larry H.P. Lang, who is well known for his critical and incisive remarks in China. Combined with the thought to apply my mathematical skills to my best advantage, I took accounting and finance as my undergraduate subject. Little as I knew about this subject at that time, now I have been able to learn that accounting and finance courses in the UK has an inclusive structure, incorporating theories and techniques from accounting, management through to behavioral science and quantitative finance. I believe this course can equip graduates with the multiple skills relevant for working in either the finance industry, or companies, or accounting firms. Therefore, I would like to further my knowledge and experience in accounting and finance at the postgraduate level, with a view to opening many more doors for my future career. By studying for the master’s course, I expect to further improve my understanding of and hands-on skills in financial reporting, corporate finance and quantitative finance, as well as building the ability to analyze and handle financial affairs from the management level. This is due to my aspiration to start my career as a financial practitioner, preferably working at the financial department of a large scale company and contributing to making the right financial decisions. My ultimate career goal is to be a successful Chief Financial Officer. My home country of China...
