Reading Response of Lack of Electronic Etiquette
Michelle Singletary gave a very strong visual image of her stance on the issue of electronic use in public. The author used many examples that made this essay much more enjoyable to read. The issue presented is something we all need to spend some time and think about. As it not only affects us, but others in the society. It is time for us, to not be selfish and start thinking about others around us.
I personally enjoyed this work of art as it was on a topic that actually occurs to me on a daily basis. Whenever I am sitting in a quiet place whether it be trying to study or relax, there always seems to be one person to disturb that moment. A majority of those people who ruin that time are, of course using their personal electronics. Another reason I do not like the constant use of electronics is because whenever I go to spend time with my friends, I usually end up getting annoyed. Due to the fact that they are constantly texting away, and not focusing on fun things we can do without the use electronics.
This is a very important topic because it affects how we will act in the future. Nowadays there are so many that prefer to text people instead of meeting face to face or calling. Not only because it saves time but also it saves the effort it takes of having to go through all of the work. Imagine, how it will be in the future where humans communicate to each other electronically instead of verbally. It also disturbs the peaceful environment during the time in which most people are trying to relax or even just enjoy the moment. The author made a reference about the train scene in which a woman was discussing the disease she believes she caught. This just proves that there are intrusions of privacy with the constant use of electronics. I thoroughly enjoyed this work, as it not only was interesting, but something I can relate to. The work by Singleterry is not something you would find in a textbook, or even a magazine, but it is a work that can used for entertainment. Once I began to read the first couple sentences, a picture formed in my mind of a woman walking back and forth, and going on a rant. The first thought that came to mind my was if I was reading an entry from a journal or a diary. The way it was written seemed like this would be perfect as something written down in a journal. The author clearly tries to express her opinion and view on how and why electronics are very disturbing.
In conclusion, this essay gives everyone a view on how constant use of electronics can be irritating to others in public. The one thing I personally liked about the excerpt was that the author was straightforward and got to the point. She tried to justify her opinion by using a numerous amount of examples. Some of which were pretty hilarious. Overall, it was a very entertaining to learn about the opinions of others that hold the same view as myself.
