Dramatic Irony is when the audience know something that the character does not. For example, We know Rebecca Nurse was not involved in witchcraft. Yet the kids still blamed her. The hypocrisy behind this is Rebecca Nurse is a pure soul, who always took care of other people's children. She was seen as a grandmother to the village. She attended church regularly and was the embodiment of how a Puritan woman should behave, but yet she was wrongfully accused for witchcraft. Hysteria had gotten so high, even blameless Rebecca falls prey. Goody Putnam, who lost seven children to illness, decides that Rebecca is at fault, and that the devil helped her kill the children.
