...Brown, C. (2009, October 29). Predictors of knowledge, attitudes, use and future use of evidence-based practice among baccalaureate nursing students at two universities. Retrieved October 19, 2015. In this article the author claims that undergraduate students in nursing should have increased exposure to evidence- based practice because not only does it better prepare students for future clinical experience, but it also helps students build confidence when dealing with field work. To support this claim, the author discusses and analyzes a cross-sectional survey that focused on the knowledge relationship of nursing students who were acquainted with evidence-based practice. The study was conducted on 436 students who attended both a private or public university and also met the criteria of either being a sophomore, junior or senior, a part-time or full-time student and able to read and write in English. These specific students were then asked a serious of questions relating to their own self- evaluation on the amount of confidence and preparedness they possess in the field. The results showed that students who participated more in a research based learning method had more positive outcomes in their knowledge and attitude and also “generally found to increase with advancing academic class level” (Brown, 2009, pg.6). The purpose of the authors’ discussion on this specific study was to prove that nursing student’s performance will increase if you take them out of a classroom environment...

...The sampling done in the research article took place in a high school in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, using 7th, 8th and 9th grade students. This was so that the study was able to get a range of adolescent aged people. A criteria was set for the people that could participate within the study, this was: All participants were to be able to speak and read fluent English, as well as not having any development disabilities. This was so that people who met the criteria could be selected randomly, therefore allowing the study to be generalised amongst the population (Fampra). They then sent 350 letters out to people who met the criteria, however only 24 responded and participated in the study. With qualitative research, the studies should be carried out in a neutral place, so that the researcher is able to watch the participant’s behaviour and reactions closer. Therefore allowing the researcher to get the most accurate results (bmj.com). In the articles case the data collection took place in facilities in the local mall or the participant’s school. The participants were then separated up into same sex focus groups. The researcher decided to do same sex focus groups so that people who were participating in the study were not discriminated against as well as focus groups being more likely to encourage quieter people to speak out about their opinions (bmj.com/content/311/7000/299.extract). The article also refers to this as the “Peacock effect ( tendency for males to speak more frequent...

...Florida Pension Article Rebuttal Florida Pension Article Rebuttal On May 31, 2013, Florida’s Governor Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 534 into the Florida Statues. This Bill was sponsored by Senator Jeff Brandes and imposes new financial reporting requirements for local government pension plans. However in the article titled “Florida House Passes Legislation Relating to Local Pension Plans,” Mr. Volz states that “the Bill equips local pension plan administrators, employees and taxpayers with improved universal tools to evaluate the financial stability of local pension plans.” There is no proof that this Bill is improved as the evaluation tools do not accurately evaluate the financial stability of the plans. The tool is not universal, as the State Government Plan, the Florida Retirement System, is not subject to this Bill. This article was influenced by the politicians that are for this Senate Bill. Only those that had something positive to say about it were quoted in the article. The Senate President was quoted thanking Senator Brandes, Speaker Weatherford, and the colleagues in the House for helping more the reform forward (Volz, May). This article is not reliable, credible or even valid as it does not provide any evidence to back up its claims and it only presents the one side of the story. What this article does not say is the Florida League of Cities, the Florida Public Pension Trustee Association, and the actuaries of many of the states pension plans all oppose...

...The essay is an in depth analysis of a scholarly article as well as a review of a popular media resource on sexuality. The scholarly article reviewed is titled, "Sexual knowledge, attitudes and activity of men conscripted into the military" authored by Jiankang, Chao et al. published in 2010. The study focused on experience, understanding, knowledge as well as attitudes concerning sexual activities of persons recruited in the military. According to Chao, et al, 2010 the research article's major component is knowledge, attitude, values and skills concerning sexuality. It is apparent that the fight against HIV and AIDS calls for the involved parties to adequately have enough knowledge to tackle it. Thus it is of significance to ensure that people are well equipped with the desired knowledge. The article sought after providing evidence that is needed for development of a better sex education program to be used beyond high school, an examination of sexual knowledge, attitude as well as behaviors of young men recruited in the military. Similarly, the research sought to determine if there were differences in socio-demographic characteristics between men who did, or didn't have sexual experience. The research was done by use of both secondary and primary sources of data. The desired data was collected from a group of military members in southern Taiwan between the periods of January and July 2009. The target sample was aged 18-29 years. To aid in data collection...

The articles of association constitute a contract between the company and its members, set out the voting rights of stockholders and the conduct of stockholders' and directors' meetings, and detail the powers of management of the company. A memorandum of association is a related document. ...Audit Committee Material Weaknesses in Smaller Reporting Companies December 2nd, 2010 OUTLINE: I. SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE II. PROBLEM STATEMENT III. SUGGESTIONS FROM THE AUTHORS IV. RELEVANCE TO AUDITING ENVIRONMENT V. CONCLUSION I. Summary of the Article This report summarizes the article published by Gramling, Audrey A, Hermanson, Dana R, Hermanson, Heather M in the CPA journal of 2009. The main focus of the article is to show the importance of audit committee in auditing and analyze problems of small companies face in developing effective audit committee. The critical issue of the article is material weaknesses related to audit committee and possibility of management’s override of internal control within small companies. Before, the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, audit committees in public companies were under more pressure to understand not just a company's financial statements, but to challenge management and auditors on key accounting, internal control and compliance issues. After the financial scandals that caused firms like Enron and WorldCom to collapse, audit committees have risen from relative darkness to center stage in modern corporate world. As it’s indicated in the article, the new role, the typical audit committee is charged with many duties. Because new role of audit committee increased complexity and accountability, it's easy for directors of small public companies to feel besieged when...

...Environmental Factors MKT/421 The company that I chose to write about is Toyota, and the reason why I chose this company is because Toyota conducts global and domestic marketing in a way that no one else does. What I have done is analyze the influence of global economic interdependence relating to Toyota; I have determined that Toyota’s global economic interdependence is essential to maximizing sales revenues by focusing on both purchasing vehicle parts and materials from certain countries and increasing the market share in each country and region in which they do business in. Toyota must also consider the fact that they need to target the specific groups and classes of people within a country because those groups may be dependent on the success of Toyota. I have also analyzed the effect of trade practices and agreements relating to Toyota, and found out that the effect of trade practices and agreements play a large role in Toyota’s strategies and operations within the boundaries of the countries. Next, when I examined the importance of demographics and physical infrastructure relating to Toyota, I found that the importance of demographics for Toyota is the examining the characteristics of how they will be approached by the consumer. According to an article I read by Multicultural states, Toyota is one of the first auto manufacturers to use the Internet to reach out to all Hispanic customers. The use of the internet to reach out to the Hispanic customers worked, because...

The study aimed at the following: Identifying the issues required to address in VTE relating research. Identifying and discussing challenges that face research on VTE. Literature available on VTE and relating research was collected and studied in terms of topics, methodologies, and results and the issues that emerged concerned structure, content, practices, and outcomes of VTE programs. The analysis addressed methods to follow, parties who could participate, and benefits of research on each issue. Finally, the researchers attempted to discuss trends of research on VTE and to suggest some recommendations for different parties related. Studies, explicitly and implicitly, indicated weakness of the response of VTE programs to innovations established by bodies supervise and govern VE. Studies also mentioned that current VTE programs, even in some first world countries, were established to serve old vocational education programs (Lazaros and Rogers, 2006). Hence emerged the main problem represented in the lack of integration or effective communication between schools and teacher education institutes (Al-Smadi, 1999). Studies consistently mentioned a lot about the weakness of this relationship. Multiple studies...

...Facing the Problem The word “domestic” is defined by Merriam-Webster’s dictionary as “of, relating to the household or the family”. When relating to something that has to do with an individual’s household or family, we consider this to be a personal or private matter. The word “violence” is defined as “exertion of physical force so as to injure or abuse”. When relating to violence it is something public. However, when used together “Domestic Violence” is something that people are not willing to talk about because it is considered a “private matter”. C.T. Bowen’s article “Silence is not answer to Domestic Violence” in the Tampa Bay Times offers some insight to this issue. Bowen’s article targets Pasco County commissioner that finds himself accused with domestic battery despite his effort 12 years earlier to donate a quarter million dollars to Sunrise, a domestic violence agency to acquire a building. Bowen details the events that led to the commissioner’s wife to get a no-contact order and also an apology by the commissioner. The commissioners’ decision to label the incident a “personal and private matter” and his failure to “accept specific responsibilities for his actions…” is what prompted this article. To gain some creditability that silence is an issue, Bowen provides shocking statistics provided by Sunrise regarding domestic violence homicides. While the case with the commissioner wasn’t a homicide, Bowen’s use of that particular statistic was very intentional. The...

...These forms the authors call visual knowledge and functional knowledge. According to the authors, these two categorizations of semantic memory also present how the brain’s knowledge of living and non living things is achieved. Here, the authors state that knowledge of living things is usually achieved through the visual dimension of semantic memory while visual knowledge of non-living things is usually achieved through the functional dimension of semantic memory. According to the authors’ findings from the first experiment, whenever there is brain damage to the section of visual semantics, then there is damage to one’s knowledge relating to living things. The authors, in another experiment, also identified that whenever there is brain damage involving the functional semantics section, then the knowledge of non living things is impaired. Overall, in this article, the authors present an argument that semantic memory has categories and that each category in the divisions of semantic memory works independently from the other.
