CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study Among other components of any organization, human beings are the most difficult to manage. Many authors have posited financial and material components of any organization than to manage the human component. They insinuate that it is easier to manage even animals than to manage human beings. (Nakpodia, 2006; peretomode, 1991; Peretomode, 2001;
Ubogu, 2004 Emore, 2005; Ukoshi, 2004)

Santillano (2010), in her study highlights the factors affecting tardiness. The result show that the tardiness cause personality traits of a person, including low self-esteem and anxiety as triggering factors of tardiness. Also tardiness is an inborn quality and other experts believed that some people are “chronically tardy” for the reason they consciously and unconsciously get good things from it. In addition parental attitude, family structure, socioeconomic status, teacher attitudes and schoolmates influence are factors affecting tardiness.

Tardiness in the Philippines is getting worst since it is habitually done by most of the students even though in some professional field. In addition, some Filipinos make it very difficult to switch to Filipino time instead they make it as an expression used to say it is a cultural thing not to be on time and not to care. Today most of the students incur tardiness for they were not able to wake up early for the reason they were not able to sleep on time; some were doing a lot of things at night, but most common is that keeping their selves busy wasting time in the internet, chatting with friends and texting because of modern technologies
Tardiness in school is a common problem among students due to laziness and not being aware of their time. But tardiness is not much an issue for students nowadays: to them, it seems to be a normal thing. Nonetheless, some reasons that cause the tardiness among students can tell whether is being committed or not or being peer pressured. (The University of

The part of the school administrators, by way of school Administration and management; knowing fully well that Lateness could be reduced by providing free education
Counselling and discipline among students and the remedy to any situation is this situation, thus, the school administrator, should study the peculiar situation and respond as the situation suggests. The fact is no two situations are the same, no matter how similar.

Parents and Guardians in this context then, shared up responsible enough on how to discipline their child being engage in gadgets and online activities during school days. They should motivate their child to focus on their academic studies. Teacher should consider motivational strategies for convincing students that on-time behaviour is an essential skill.
Teachers should motivate his/her pupils to be on-time in school by giving a praise, rewards or even awards during graduation. And students should be fully trained to promptly perform the daily routine tasks. However, the problem in student’s tardiness still exists, hence study on factors Affecting

Objectives of the Study This study focuses on Factors Affecting Tardiness of Grade 6 pupils in San Dionisio
Central Elementary School.

Specifically, this study aims to: 1. describe the socio-demographic profile of the respondents as to family structure, daily allowance, schoolmate influence.

2. determine the extent tardiness of the respondents considering family structure, daily allowance and schoolmates influence in the study.

3. determine whether a significant relationship exist between family structure, daily

allowance, schoolmates influence and tardiness of the respondents.
Hypothesis

There is no significant relationship exist between family structure, daily allowance, schoolmates influence and tardiness of the respondents.
Theoretical Framework of the Study

Theory related to Tardiness By: Kornik, Michael (2014)

This study is utilizing on chronic lateness by Michael Kornik (2004) on deeply syndrome this theory states that a personal disorder whose essential features are resistance to the demands of others that is expressed indirectly under the cover of obstructionism, procrastination, stubbornness, dawdling, forgetfulness, and intentional inefficiency combined with negative, defeatist attitudes.

Furthermore, concept of incompetence supports this theory where individuals who are functionally dysfunctional, and their chronic lateness is a reflection of the chaos and disorganization in every other facet of their life.
RATIONALIZE
Tardiness is not just a habitual manner but also a personal disorder that often students may possess. Many of their negative characteristics are the reasons why they are being tardy. And since they possess this characteristics it becomes their habitual manner and culture. Being aware and consistent with this habits they cannot notice that what they are doing is not just to be their habit instead it can be change. Moreover, in incompetence theory some folks are hard to switch for the reason that being tardy is what they are often to do that change into their uncontrolled behaviours.

Conceptual Framework The researcher consider the following factors: family structure, daily allowance, schoolmates influence. The diagram shows that family structure, daily allowance, schoolmates influence are related to tardiness since family structure are composed of two components such as single parents and both parents are around. In daily allowance it can also affects the behaviour of the pupil towards tardiness comparing the behaviour of a child with the high amount of allowance and the low amount of allowance. While schoolmates influence implies that whether the peer group are good or not through social interaction.

Definition of Terms The terms used in this study are both conceptually and operationally defined.

Daily Allowance. a financial support given by the parents to augment the daily needs of a child. In this study, daily allowance used as one of the factors affecting tardiness.

Family Structure. is a status whether a child’s parent are single or married, it affects educational achievement of a child. In this study, family structure is the most influential area for the development of a child in both emotional ,spiritual and social well-being. What a child may become depending on what kind of family would he/she belong.

Schoolmate Influence.
In this study, schoolmates’ influence is the one factor that affects the attitude of a child towards her/his school performance is the strong influence of a classmate. It is commonly said that: misery loves company.

Tardiness. Is the habit of being late or delaying arrival. Being late as a form of misconduct maybe formally punishable in various arrangements, such as workplace, school, etc. In this study, tardiness is a problem to Grade VI pupils in San Dionisio Central Elementay School.

Significance of the Study This study may be beneficial to San Dionisio Central Elementary School wherein we conduct our study to help them to seek those students that are being tardy and lessen their number. This study is also beneficial to DepEd as it help to collect and stored information in regards with the school that has a great number of students that are being tardy. COE ISAT-U students are also beneficial to this study for them to have ideas as a future educators. Pupils are also beneficial for them to be aware with tardiness and change their behaviour into good one. Teachers are also beneficial for them to be able to handle their students having chronic lateness. And parents are also beneficial to this study for them to be able to discipline their children in regards with their behaviour towards school.

Scope and Limitation of the Study This study focuses on the factors affecting tardiness of grade VI pupils in San Dionisio Central Elementary School. This study will be conducted in 1st semester of school year 2016-2017. The respondents of this study will be the grade VI pupils of San Dionisio Central Elementary School. Data will be gathered through a questioner. The statistical analysis will be the SPSS.
