In “ The Monsters are Due on Maple Street” by Rod Serling, the character’s actions advance the plot in the story by making the events in the story more imaginative and mysterious. The text states that the residents of Maple street believe that the meteor that flew overhead caused the electrical problem, “...a meteor...why should the power go off all of a sudden?” This event is critical to the plot, because the characters thought it was an unexplained object in the sky, and without it Tommy wouldn’t have questioned that it was aliens and that the entire story could have never happened. ...Rod Serling’s message to the readers of “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” is “When you fear a lot it changes the way you judge and opinions. For example, in the video everybody accused each other of being an alien because everybody was afraid. The theme of the story kind of starts to kick off when there’s a big flash of lightning appearing in the beginning. In the video, it shows me that everybody was being surrounded and then one person would go up to another person saying “You’re the alien.” For example, people accused Goodman for being te alien because out of all things his car was working.
