Rosemary
Rosemary or rosmarinus officinalis is a woody, perennial herb with fragrant, evergreen, needle-like leaves and white, pink, purple, or blue flowers. Rosemary is also a member of the mint family Lamiaceae. The word rosemary derives from the Latin for “dew” and “sea” or “dew of the sea” because in many locations, it needs no water other than the humidity carried by the sea breeze to live. (3)
Rosemary contains many good healing properties and benefits. It contains substances that are useful for stimulating the immune system, increasing circulation, and improving digestion. Thanks to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-carcinogenic properties, rosemary boosts overall health of body. Essential oil of rosemary can be applied topically as a natural treatment for arthritis, sore muscles, and other joint and muscle pains such as myalgia, sciatica, and intercostal neuralgia. It can also be used externally for skin irritations such as eczema. Breathing the scent of the essential oil may help with congestion due to colds, allergies, respiratory infections, and the flu. (1)
Rosemary is a popular agent in anti-aging creams as it helps reduce puffiness, stimulates cell regeneration, increases firmness, and improves overall skin tone. Infused rosemary oil is an intensive treatment for dandruff. Rosemary is a mild diuretic that gets rid of bloating and water retention. (2)
“Rosemary contains carnosol which has been found in studies to be a potent anti-cancer compound. Researchers have had promising results in studies of its efficacy against breast cancer, prostate cancer, colon cancer, leukemia, and skin cancer. In one study, researchers gave powdered rosemary to rats for two weeks and found that it reduced the binding of the carcinogen given to the rats by 76% and significantly inhibited the formation of breast tumors. Studies have also found that rosemary has powerful antibacterial properties against H. pylori, bacteria that cause stomach ulcers, and Staph infections. Rosemary has also been used to treat liver problems for hundreds of years. One study found that rosemary extract reduces cirrhosis in rats given thioacetamide, a toxic compound that is toxic to the liver. It also prevented liver damage from tetrachloride in rats and mice”. (2)
For the most part, rosemary is considered safe with no side effects; however pregnant women should avoid consuming large amounts because it may possibly lead to uterine contractions and miscarriage. Also, people with high blood pressure should not take rosemary because it may raise their blood pressure. The undiluted oil is unsafe to take by mouth. Taking large amounts of rosemary can cause vomiting, uterine bleeding, kidney irritation, increased sun sensitivity, skin redness, and allergic reactions. (5)

After a few years living in France she moved back to the States for an undergraduate degree and finally a master in French Literature and language. As a child, she was always beholden to reading and would read the historical works of fiction. She particularly loved Katherine the classic work by Anya Seton which she read and reread tens of times throughout her childhood. The fascination in Rosemary Simpson’s works is the inherent conflict between historical reality and the gaping and often frequent holes in history which she so excellently showcases. According to Simpson history can only provide so much verifiable facts through which we can recreate the past and tell a story. As such she writes the novels to ensure that she tells the story without violating the historical integrity while making up what cannot be...

Lisa Van Houten Reversion of Parole

...Leslie Van Houten consideration for freedom. Your decision reversing the board’s grant of parole for Ms. Houten’s release from the California Institution For Women should solely be based on substantial evidence that Houten is a dangerous threat if released back into society. With murder being the most inhumane act of crime, the continued punishment should be of a comparable caliber. It takes a great degree of motivation and psychological repugnancy to commit to the horrible acts in which Ms. Houten participated. There is an overwhelming mental barrier between final acts of defiance, and who is to say that once Houten is released she would be able to have full control of that barrier? Leslie Van Houten savagely held a pillow over Rosemary La Bianca’s face and watched as her family of cult members brutally murdered Mrs. La Bianca and her husband. Not only did she watch the attack, but also she admitted to violently stabbing Mrs. La Bianca a merely sixteen times even after realizing she had already been dead. This shows how much of little value human life means to her, because she engaged in committing a crime towards someone she’d never came into contact with prior to that night. Also, her consciousness of what she was physically doing had to be of great dominance because an average sound minded individual would not be able to commit such a heinous act without treason or motive. With her maniacal mental state being at an all time high, this leads to the fact that the...

Rosemary Kennedy Lobotomy Research Paper

...Can you imagine letting someone stick a pointy object in your eye ball and letting them scramble your brains? This is what Rosemary Kennedy, along with thousands of others went through. Today’s medical field has improved since those times. Lobotomy is one of the horrid medical treatments that used to be used. Rosemary Kennedy was a fearless, strong woman up until she was 23. She had shown some violent behavior, although nothing serious, and her father decided to force her into getting a lobotomy for her “moodiness.” Dr. Walter Freeman had performed only sixty-five lobotomies by 1941, which is when she received the procedure. It left her totally incontinent; She would often stare at completely blank walls, and her speech and verbals skills were diminished to merely an unintelligent babble. Eight years following her procedure, she had to be moved into a home for the disabled. Due to her lowered mental capacity, she became detached from her family. She later passed away of natural causes....

Summary Of Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy's Daughter '

...I am submitting my third quarter book report for “Read and Comprehend a Literary or Non-fiction Text”. I read Rosemary: The Hidden Kennedy Daughter by Kate Clifford Larson. The report includes the title, author, a short summary of the book, and three questions I would ask the author of the book. I wanted to know if Kate Larson ever met Rosemary. Furthermore, wanted to know if she believed that Jack’s presidency affected Rosemary, and what exactly Rosemary’s disability was. If the author had met Rosemary before she died she would have a first hand account of her life, but she may have just tracked down family friends of the Kennedy’s. This could have an effect on the accuracy of the story if there was tension between the Kennedy’s and...

Rosemary Zagarri's 'Chapter 5: A Democracy-For Whom?'

...Early American History—Zagarri Discussion Questions Rosemary Zagarri, “Chapter 5: A Democracy—For Whom?” After the constitution was created, what groups of people were still excluded from having the vote? (The vote is also known as suffrage or the franchise. I will use all three of these words interchangeably in our discussions.) White women and “People of color” would not be allowed to vote, but the way it is worded would make it seem like it would include everyone. What groups did the Jeffersonian Republicans decide should get the vote? (When I say Republicans, I do NOT mean the Republicans of today—two very different groups.) Men would be the only ones to be able to vote. They decided to continue to exclude women, children and free blacks. If they allowed women then they would have to allow other groups to as well. In the beginning though it was only men who had owned a...

Rosemary is an instructor and she also hired 5 instructors to run the classes and training sessions. It is very suitable to hire instructors for training. And training is also a field that Rosemary has experience. Apart from them, she hired Kate Hoffman who also has an instructor experience and a close friend of her. Rosemary has given the marketing, facility up keep, scheduling and record keeping responsibilities to her. Although Kate has no experience on those specialized fields, Rosemary also has a limited knowledge about those tasks. It is very dangerous for a manager to give disproportionate responsibilities to the employees. To run a company, it is not only enough to know the technical functionalities. The company should at least have a trustable accountant and cash handler in order to control the money flow. Since Rosemary is not an accountant it is very easy for her to lose the control about the company records.
