The case of Sacco and Vanzetti, two Italian anarchists took place in 1920. They were “falsely” convicted of robbing a paymaster and killing the guard. They bonded over their ideal of anarchism and used violence to fight against violent and unjust governments. Their case caused extreme tension between immigrants and the American people. Thousands of people around the world were devastated by this case and began to insist against the government. Although their innocence was supported by many people, Sacco and Vanzetti were executed off of deceptive evidence. This increased the amount of hatred Italian immigrants had against Americans.
Sacco and Vanzetti were both involved in normal workplace. Nicola Sacco was a 32-year-old shoemaker and Bartolomeo Vanzetti was a 29-year-old fish peddler. Both of the men had seemed to be extremely distant and antisocial. “They were among the many immigrants living in poverty who, fed up with what they saw as the exploitation of workers in the capitalist system in the U.S., were drawn to the meetings of anarchists who thought that the solution was to overthrow the government and start from …show more content…
Both men carried weapons with them when they got arrested, which was the evidence used against them in the case. “Their request for new trial was rejected in October of 1926, and the two were sentenced to death in April of 1927” (Waxman). On August 27, 1927, Sacco and Vanzetti were executed in the electric chair in Boston, more evidence was found many years after they were executed. “In October 1961, and again in March 1983, new investigations were conducted into the matter, but both revealed that Sacco’s revolver was indeed the one that fired the bullet and killed the security guards” (“The Sacco-Vanzetti Case).
