Pro-Family Groups in Connecticut Rally Voters to Overturn Court's Gay 'Marriage' Ruling"

Pro-family activists in Connecticut are urging the people of the state to vote yes for a constitution convention when they head for the polls on Nov. 4.
Though the 4-3 split decision by the Connecticut Supreme Court on Friday effectively redefined marriage in the state, Connecticuters will have the opportunity to have the final say if enough voters rally behind a call for the state legislature to convene a state constitution convention.
Every twenty years, under the state constitution, the ballot question "Shall there be a Constitutional Convention to amend or revise the Constitution of the state?" is placed on the ballot for consideration. This year marks Connecticut's 220th since its admission to the Union in 1788.
The Court's willingness to undemocratically impose same-sex marriage on Connecticut has made it necessary for us to demand the right to Let the People Decide, expressed Peter Wolfgang, executive director of the Family Institute of Connecticut (FIC), in a press release following Friday's high court decision.
And that is why thousands of us will vote 'yes' for a constitutional convention on November 4th."
If enough votes are found to favor a convention, it will be incumbent upon the state legislature to convene a state Constitution Convention, explained Matthew M. Daly, chairman of the Constitution Convention Campaign. There, the people of Connecticut can implement Initiative Referendum as a mechanism and amend the state Constitution for a 31st time. Rick Warren

Rick Warren is scheduled to pray at the Barack Obama presidential inauguration. Warren, after praying at Barack Obama's inaugural he appears poised to be the moderate spokesman for the left of center evangelicals. Rick Warren has publicly stated that he is opposed to gay marriages. But he is trying to meet the gay lesbian community half way by not condemning them and trying to have some sort of compromise. Rick Warren is reaching out to the gay lesbian GLBT community and sort of apologizing for his remarks about gay marriage. But it appears that the Reverend Rick is going out of his way to demonstrate that he is not a right wing evangelical like latter-day Anthony Comstock, Ken Starrs and James Dobsons of the Christian right. And he's managed to persuade lesbian rock star Melissa Etheridge's one celebrity to another of his sincerity. She tells the story in the Huffington Post. Rick Warren Purpose Driven Church

Iowa Gay Marriage

Iowa gay marriage decision may hinge on legal standard Court must decide if state ban has 'rational basis' or requires 'strict scrutiny'
A former Iowa Supreme Court justice believes that the same-sex marriage case that the court will hear Tuesday may hinge on one of the first decisions the court will make, when they choose the standard of review to apply to the case. Those of us who believer in the Bible and listen to WAY FM Christian Radio, will be surprised on the abortion issue.
In Varnum v. Brien, six same-sex couples from Polk County are arguing that the state's 1998 ban on gay marriages is unconstitutional. The state is defending the Defense of Marriage Act, which passed by wide margins in the state Legislature a decade ago. See more details about the Tennessee governor candidates visit:
The three most recent state courts to rule on gay marriage were Massachusetts, California and Connecticut. The justices in all three states ruled that laws banning same-sex marriages were unconstitutional.
McCormick said he believed the quickest ruling he could remember from the Iowa Supreme Court came in roughly three weeks.
In yet another sign that Sen. John McCain will have a difficult time being all things to all voters this year, the Family Research Council says he needs to take a higher profile in fighting against gay marriage.

In an item labeled "Not So Straight Talk Express," the advocacy group for religious conservatives took McCain to task for not making a bigger issue out of the California Supreme Court's decision establishing a right for gay couples to marry.

FRC said McCain "has managed to keep a relatively low profile on an issue that is certain to take center stage in the general election."

California Marriage Amendment on Trial 2010

The California anti gay marriage amendment is on trial. While Arnold Schwarzenegger is on the liberal side of the issue, he as being sued as he is the Governor of California and represents the state. Scholars, gay and lesbian partners, and opponents of same-sex marriage are expected to testify about the nature of marriage and being gay during an unprecedented federal trial today to determine whether gays and lesbians may marry. California Marriage Amendment
The case, Perry v. Schwarzenegger, is expected to become a landmark that eventually will be decided by the U.S. Supreme Court. Both sides have hired leading legal advocates. San Francisco's U.S. District Judge Vaughn R. Walker, a Republican appointee known for independence and liberal thinking of the George Bush Administration, will decide whether Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage violates U.S. constitutional rights of equal protection and due process. Walker's pretrial rulings have tended to favor supporters of same-sex marriage. Unlike other court cases about marriage rights, the trial before Walker will involve weeks of testimony from witnesses on wide-ranging issues. Most likely, the gay side will win and President Barack Obama and the US Supreme Court willl therefore have to deal with the issue when it is appealed.
Previously in 2009, On a 4-3 vote, the California Supreme Court has destroyed the civil institution of marriage between a man and a woman, and law-abiding Americans must condemn it in the strongest terms. This arrogant judicial activism took 121 pages of contorted logic to explain and is no surprise coming from this San Francisco-based court. By bowing down to homosexual activists and the rebel city of San Francisco, the California Supreme Court has exchanged the rule of law for the rule of unbridled power to destroy all that is good and sacred. However, the terrible example of homosexual weddings should be short-lived. This extremely bad ruling will certainly spur Californians to vote in November to overrule the judges and protect marriage licenses for a man and a woman in the California Constitution. Information about Marriage Amendments
Churches may directly support marriage amendments or other similar legislation or initiatives, such as the abortion initiative in South Dakota. Since 1934, when the Internal Revenue Code was amended to include a limitation on lobbying activities of 501(c)(3) organizations, not one church has ever lost its tax-exempt status for engaging in too much lobbying. Contacting legislators to support the passage of a constitutional marriage amendment is considered lobbying, and such activity is clearly a permissible activity of churches. Christian Churches should be active against gay marriage, and gay apparel and toy ideas.

Virginia Marriage Amendment

Why does Virgina need a Constitutional Amendment to ban same sex marriage?

Virginia already has legislation denying same-sex marriage, but a constitution amendment is needed so that laws on the books would be more difficult to be overturned by the courts.
Anti Same Sex Marriage ban needed in Virginia
Six states recognize same sex unions in some form. A Constitutional Amendment to ban same sex marriage is need to strengthen current Virginia laws and to make more difficult for court challenges. A gay or lesbian couple could marry in another state, and move to Wisconsin and request that their civil union be recognized. An anti ban is therefore needed.

Same Sex Marriage Becoming More Common

Connecticut in April became the first state to voluntarily adopt a statute similar to Vermont's, which allows same-sex civil unions. The measure, which was signed by Republican Gov. Jodi Rell, went into effect October 2005 and makes Connecticut the sixth state to give some recognition to same-sex couples. A similar measure was approved by Maryland lawmakers but vetoed by Republican Gov. Robert Ehrlich.
In Maine, voters rejected a measure placed on the Nov. 8 ballot by a church-backed conservative group, voting instead to keep a gay rights anti-discrimination law approved by lawmakers earlier this year. Alaska's Supreme Court in October ruled that state and local governments must provide the same benefits to employees' same-sex partners that spouses get. California's Legislature broke new ground Sept. 6 when it became the first legislative body in the United States to pass a bill legalizing same-sex marriage without a court order. Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger vetoed the measure, however, saying he would rather leave it up to the state Supreme Court to decide whether California will allow gays and lesbians to wed. Against Gay Marriage

A study of the Bible will tell you that we should be against gay marriage.
Genesis 1:26-28
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
Matthew 5:13 Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.

Arguments Against Same Sex Marriage

Gay Marriage: Why Would It Affect Me?

(This is a synopsis of the new book by Dr. James Dobson, Marriage Under Fire.)
BOSTON (BP)-In an action that surprised even some conservatives, Massachusetts legislators Jan. 2 passed a proposed constitutional marriage amendment just hours before it would have died as the session ended.
The amendment, which would protect the natural definition of marriage statewide, now must pass once more in the next session if it is to appear on the 2008 ballot. If adopted, it would reverse a landmark court ruling from 2003 that legalized "gay marriage."
Just days ago the amendment appeared doomed. Legislators met in a constitutional convention three times in recent months but recessed each date without giving the proposal an up-or-down vote. Many observers thought the same thing would happen Jan. 2, the last day of the legislative session. Instead, the amendment received 62 votes-12 more than required under state law. Voting against it were 134 members. Under state law the proposal needed the support of only one-fourth of legislators in the 200-member chamber.
"It was a miracle," Kris Mineau, president of the Massachusetts Family Institute, told Baptist Press. "We did everything possible that we could do over the last year and a half to get to this point.... Nobody gave us a plugged nickel's chance and yet God made it happen."
A record 170,000 Massachusetts citizens signed petitions to qualify the amendment for legislative consideration, and Mineau and other amendment supporters were confident they had the 50 votes for passage. But when legislators met in November, opponents of the amendment-knowing it could pass if given a chance-voted 109-87 to recess until Jan. 2.
Amendment supporters, led by outgoing Republican Gov. Mitt Romney, subsequently filed a lawsuit against legislators in state court, asking the court to issue a decision laying out the state constitutional responsibilities of legislators. Two days after Christmas, the state's highest court unanimously ruled legislators had a "constitutional duty" to vote on the amendment. Mitt Romney proved not to be a friend of traditional marriage or the Ten Commandments.
Mineau applauded Romney and Democratic Senate President Robert Travaglini for their leadership on the issue. Travaglini was the presiding officer of the convention and supported the amendment. Additionally, Mineau said, there were more than 40 newspaper editorials statewide calling for an up-or-down vote on the amendment.
Homosexual activists were pressuring legislators to kill the amendment Jan. 2 and not advance it to the next session. Incoming Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick, a "gay marriage" supporter, also urged the legislature to adjourn without a vote, The Boston Globe reported. Mineau said it was "very disturbing" to have the next governor, "who is going to take the oath of office to uphold the constitution, coming to the legislature and calling on them to violate the constitution and the Ten Commandments."
Both sides of the political battle now will gear up for the next vote, which could take place before July.
"We still have in excess of 50 votes in the new legislature, but it's going to be a little tighter," Mineau said. "Truthfully, we were counting on 57 firm votes [Jan. 2] and we got 62. That was encouraging."
Massachusetts remains the only state in America to recognize "gay marriage," although three state courts this year are considering "gay marriage" suits. Mineau hopes Massachusetts is on its way to restoring the natural definition of marriage. "We're on second base, heading to third," he said.
Some Facts about marriage in Massachusetts
Real Marriage is...
...an institution for a man and a woman. Marriage is not genderless. It is a union of two different sexes, not just a union of two different people. Real marriage (a man & a woman) is not rooted in discrimination. It is rooted in common sense, for the common good. For marriage to flourish in our culture, it must be protected from redefinition; for if marriage can mean anything, it will mean nothing. [Note: If you disagree with this bedrock principle, please read no further. No marriage that violates the man-woman standard can be real.]
...best for children. While thousands of Massachusetts single moms and dads earn their Super Parent wings every day, to raise healthy children who become productive citizens, there is but one gold standard for which we should strive as a society... that every child be reared by a loving mother and father. the ultimate solution for Massachusetts's problems. Prisons fill, schools fail, and welfare rolls grow because of the breakdown of marriage & the home. Governments and charities have spent millions of dollars for decades treating symptoms. It is time for governments, churches, communities and businesses to come together to treat the cause.
...an intimate, healthy relationship. Real Marriage means communication, commitment, respect and selfless love. These are the keys to a healthy, happy, affair-proof life til death do us part. Successful parenting and warm, enduring bonds with children comes from true intimacy in marriage.
...worth working at. Divorce and dissatisfaction can be avoided. A good marriage is worth the effort it requires, and organizations across Massachusetts stand ready to help with proven programs and timeless wisdom.
...built on faith. Marriage is a God-designed institution predating constitutions, governments, and laws. Marriage works best when God is the foundation and central unifying presence, and our law foundation is the Ten Commandments.
The right vote on the Marriage Amendment is YES. The right vote for Marriage is YES. Keep it real in law on election day and make it real at home every day.

...School Shootings When I think of school shootings my mind immediately goes back to the Columbine High school shooting. This was the first school shooting that I was actually old enough to remember and understand. I still remember having a moment of silence for all of those involved. The New world encyclopedia states “Columbine High School shooting was one of the deadliest mass shootings in United States history. On April 20, 1999, two teenagers killed 13 people and wounded more than 20 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. The incident drew worldwide attention. It led to widespread discussion over gun control and the prevention of school violence.” (Funk & Wagnalls) According to Wikipedia from 2011 to 2015 there has been 99 school shootings including grade schools, high schools, and colleges. This is a problem that needs more national attention in my opinion in order for there to be some form of change. The killers in school shootings (mass shootings) are what we call mass murderers, they typically want to send a message. It was stated the two students in Columbine sought revenge on bullies; this shooting/bombing was meant to send the message to them. According to a few articles I read they define their personalities as, “pseudocommando” these individuals kill in public during the daytime, plan their offense well in advance, and come prepared with arsenal of weapons, very similar to that of the school shooting killers. School Shooting

...School Shootings Sandy Hook is one of the deadliest school shootings in the US history, resulting in the death of twenty six people (5). There have been seventy four school shootings only during the eighteen months after the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012(4). Even though less than 1% of youth homicides take place in a school setting, it can cause long term damage to the students and school staff members(6). Students who witnessed school shootings are more likely to resist returning to school, have sleeping problems and to develop the symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. The federal government should interfere to protect our students and stop school shooting. One of the most common answer to the problem is strengthen gun laws (1). The solution suggests that making it harder to buy/register a gun will probably reduce school shooting as it will be harder for minors and psychos to obtain arms. People would be required to have a mental check, a background check, to lock up the gun and to undergo mandatory training before being allowed to own guns in their homes. This solution is built on the believe that guns are the main reason why school shootings happen. In reality, such a law will help reducing unintentioned crimes not the planned crimes. The law will help teaching the good citizens how to use guns correctly but criminals do not follow the law and they will find an illegal way to commit their crimes. The fact that committing a mass in a public place by a gun is easier...

...Unfortunately in the contemporary world, school shootings often occur, and most of the time the victims are young children. Since 1999 after the Columbine shooting in Colorado, school shootings have become particularly frequent, especially in America with Sandy Hook and Stoneman Douglas, yet the US government rarely makes changes. However, a few years before this, a school shooting in the United Kingdom had a very different outcome than the shootings in America. In 1996, Thomas Hamilton killed sixteen students at Dunblane Primary School in Scotland, UK. After the Dunblane Massacre, the government responded to the peoples campaigns to pass sufficient laws and risked negative impacts on the economy to go as far as they could in preventing similar...

...Although rampage school shootings are statistically very rare, the abruptness and magnitude of the events, as well as the mystery of what causes them, has resulted in widespread speculation about the perpetrators. Media coverage often focuses their explanations on social factors such as peer harassment and the influence of violence in video games and television programs. These factors, however, cannot fully explain why school shootings occur or how they can be prevented. For example, it is probably safe to say that numerous students are bullied on a daily basis in virtually every school across the country, but school shootings are uncommon. Respectively, millions of adolescents play violent video games and watch violent movies without ever...

...William Tubao Kaplan May 7, 2014 The issue of school shootings is important to students and should be to the general public. A school shooting involves an educational institution and a firearm being discharged at its facility. It may also refer to shootings near or on a school bus or near a school when it is in session. School shootings could occur anywhere in the world where firearms are available for access. These types of shootings in particular have generated a political dispute on stricter gun control. There are well known shootings in the United States, Europe, Canada, and other countries. The United States has the highest number of school related shootings. This paper will examine a few of those incidents and compare how the media and academic articles portray them. Overall, media articles show that coverage of school shooting events such as the ones that occurred at Virginia Tech University and Sandy Hook Elementary School tend to primarily focus on the number of victims, reactions of family, the misfortune of the event, as well as the mental state and background of the shootings. For an example, in the Los Angeles Times article “Gunman kills 20 kids, 6 adults at Connecticut elementary school”, they focus on the number of dead, imagery, and the emotion after the shooting such as parent’s reactions and children’s reactions. In the article they seem to dramatize the whole situation by saying things like “Evil visited this community today”. Although it is a tragic...

...SCHOOL SHOOTINGS I am going to write about the topic school shootings, based on the two texts “Warning” by Terry McCarthy and “It’s only me” by Nancy Gibbs, who both deal with an event which happened 10 years ago. A school shooting is an incident in which gun violence occurs at an educational institution. It most commonly describes an act committed by either students or intruders from outside school campus. They are to be distinguished from crowd-containment shootings enforced by law personnel and are also differentiated from other kinds of school violence, or terror attacks involving multiple weapons. The incident was committed by a, at the time, 15 year old boy called Charles Andrew Williams, Andy for short. He recently moved to Santee, California, a suburb with around 58.000 inhabitants. He was described as being a “good Christian boy” from rural Maryland. Andy was bullied at school, neglected by his father and rarely saw his mother. His parents divorced when he was 5, and things were not good at home. Even his own friends taunted him, but he just slacked it off, like he kept it all inside. His friends described him as being a “follower” and someone you could easily manipulate with. Andy started hanging out with a different group people called the “Grommits”, who were basically a couple of dope-smoking skateboarders. Andy’s friends noticed he started acting different – he ditched school and got into trouble. He talked openly about “pulling a Columbine” and some...

With this fact in mind, the biggest concern on people’s minds, such as students and the parents, is how to stay safe. Allowing teachers to have guns in the classroom will provide comfort and safety to students and parents. If an intruder or a shooter comes to a school, more classrooms will be armed, allowing protection for others. On September 1, 2004, one of the most famous school hostage siege took place....
