...Final Throughout the world there are many schools that believe that school should be about learning not about sports. But I believe that school should be about more than just learning. It should be a place where you can socialize, have fun, and play sports. But most importantly I do agree that it should be about learning. In the article “High School Athletes Gain Lifetime Benefits” there are many good points on why sports are a good thing to have in high schools. A research was conducted by Kevin Kniffin, a teacher of leadership and management in sports at Cornell University. Kniffin’s research showed that people who play high school sports get better jobs, with better pay. Sports is not just a time to have fun, sports can teach a person to have more self-confidence, self-respect, and leadership. I6t is also said that former student-athletes donate more time and money more frequently than people who weren’t part of a sports team....

...Many colleges that have athletics care more about sports than kids learning. According to multiple studies, if children participate in any kind of activity then they tend to think on other things instead of education. Therefore, athletics should be eliminated so districts can save money, students can be successful in school, and kids can start doing their homework. Most schools lose profit because they invest all their money into athletics. It was found that schools with sports spend all of their money and nobody realizes the amount of money they pay for athletics (Ripley 10). More specifically, when teachers travel for games, districts have to hire substitutes and they also need to pay for buses, hotels, and meals (Ripley 10). These are important facts for districts to know;...

...Should Sports Classes be Dropped in Secondary School so Students can Concentrate on Academic Subjects? Name: Institution: Should Sports Classes be Dropped in Secondary School so Students can Concentrate on Academic Subjects? Exercises and sports are important in the secondary school curriculum because they create the much needed break for students from the monotony and stress of academic work. Sports also encourage the students to remain healthy and avoid sicknesses like obesity. Basch (2011) claims that exercise directly affects the functioning of the brain by; increasing the flow of oxygen and neurotransmitters to the brain and supporting neurotrophins which are in charge of neurons which are responsible for memory and learning. He asserts that physical activity influences the development and behavior of the brain by improving attention span, information processing, retrieval and storage, in addition, sports also reduce cravings and enhance positive effects. ...November 22, 2013 Why Sports Shouldn’t Be Allowed? High schools football cost about $1,300 a player math by contract, cost just about $618 a student. High school shouldn’t offer sports because it distract them from learning time, students can also get injured and a lot of time is spent on practices and games would be spent on doing homework or studying. High school money should be spent on other important stuff rather then sports. For example the money can be used on book, electricity, toilet paper, desk and other important school stuff. High school sports shouldn’t be allowed in school, because it interrupts learning time. Some students miss a lot of assignments/test because they get pulled out of class to leave to their games. Things that interrupts class shouldn’t be allowed in school. Students have a sense of belonging, when they feel tied to the school, they feel more part of the progress. The problem is that once sports become important to the school, they will start colliding with academics. Sports programs gives students the opportunity to meet and interact with students and other schools. High school sports shouldn’t be allowed, because many sports can cause many injury’s. High school football players spend long, exhausting hours practicing ( 15 percent experience a brain injury each season). Sports that causes injury’s shouldn’t be allowed in school. These are probably one...

...child’s school I would consider several factors to ensure that they are in the best possible learning environment. I believe that it is not just a case of having the best teachers and assuming that they will get the best experience. The classroom should be the centre for all major activity and have lots of room for children to not feel crammed in and have a full interactive whiteboard so the children can feel more immersed in the lesson. It would have windows that ran along the wall to allow lots of natural sunlight as I feel working under fluorescent light can hurt children’s eyes whilst trying to read. I feel that there should be an area in the classroom where children could read and take time to themselves. I would like it if there was a pet in the room also to teach the children about how to look after animals and other creatures. I would like to have the tables set up in rows for when doing class work but also be able to change them to circles for group work and projects. For the cafeteria, I would prefer a place where the children are offered a choice of healthy meals and there is ample seating. I think that the portions should be small enough for a child and try to combat the obesity problem in this country. I feel that lunch time is a great time for children to relax much like recess but without the running around so the cafeteria needs to be a place where my child can do this. I would like it if there were a lot of opportunities for sport at the school...

...When you think of high school sports what comes to mind? You might imagine a massive crowd roaring with the animated cheerleaders as your team hits the final home run that wins the big game. Or maybe you conjure up more behind the scenes; with long tiring practices, and repetitive work that only builds up stress till the whole wide world is sitting on your shoulders. At first glance it seems there are only those two types of reactions. But in reality, both are part of the entirety of high school sports. Everything has positives and negatives, even school athletics. Without further ado let’s get the ball rolling. High school sports keep students active. Not all students get exercise outside of the sports they take part in. Athletics keep athletes healthy year round. Some coaches even put their players on a diet so they aren’t just getting exercise, they’re being trained to watch what they eat. Sports make kids strong, there’s no doubt about it....

...Goals, every person should constantly have more and more goals planned out, and they should get tougher as they go. The goals should get tougher as you want to see yourself progress as a person. My goals are quite broad as of senior year. Get into a four year university, get a car, and begin my major of sports management. I chose to go into the field of sports because of my history of playing sports. I was a basketball and baseball star up until I stopped playing freshman year. Although I stopped playing I still have a passion for sports as any long term athlete would say, you never can really move on from sports, although when you stop playing you try to stay busy to take your mind of playing, the thought of playing is still in every athlete's head. I always had success in both sports I played, playing travel ball for each sport and getting most valuable player for almost every game in baseball, and scoring the most points every game in basketball. My success rate was higher than almost every other opponent I had to face off against. History classes is where I seek the most comfort in school. Which ever lesson i'm taught in history comes easy. There is reason for it too. I spent many weeks in the summer just staying up until four o'clock in the morning just learning about all the words history, researching many different ancient civilizations and learning about their culture. Finding different point of views of the world just so I can analyze their perspective's and create...

...the many steps involved to running a successful camp. That is why running a basketball camp for middle school girls is a hard job to do because of all the people and equipment that is involved. The very first step to running a basketball camp is to have the appropriate facilities. If the participants are going to enjoy the camp, having a clean and nice facility will increase the chances of it. In order to practice somewhere, permission is needed first. The location of the camp is important. If most of the girls are participants from the same school, holding the camp at the school gym is a great idea. In order to reserve the gym for the camp, dates and times must be set. The players are unable to participate in the camp if they do not have permission from their parents. These permission forms should ask the parent(s) permission if their child is allowed to be active in the camp. These permission forms should be turned in at least a couple of weeks before the actual date of the camp to know exactly how many girls are attending. Showers and bathrooms also should be accessible during the camp. In order for the girls to use the bathrooms and showers during and after camp, the facilities must be kept clean after being used. If not, then there will be consequences. Without having the right amount of participants, running a basketball will not be successful. Middle school athletes are the perfect age group to participate in a...

...of knowledge. In addition, he claims that even if individuals do poorly in school, it doesn’t mean that they aren’t smart. It could just mean that they are very street-smart with a knowledge on different subjects. Furthermore, schools usually overlook street-smarts and associate them with non-intellectual interests. Graff thinks that students should find something they are actually interested in first so then they can build from there and eventually become intellectuals. Additionally he suggests that if they could somehow see these interests through “academic eyes” with language they understand,...

...Many people have different beliefs about whether schools should keep sports, or not. Numerous articles say that physical activity in districts will need to go because of students grades. Therefore, schools should eliminate sports because it would save money, more personal time, and improve the academic achievements of students. Eliminating after school sports can cut down big costs because many parents waste more money on school sports than other things. Amanda Ripley states in the article that “new bleachers can cost half a million dollars” (10). The article also says that “maintaining a grass field can cost more than $20,000 a year” by Amanda Ripley (10). In addition, Amanda Ripley had said “distraction, however, may be the greatest...

I wanted to do this because I personally love the sport of soccer but learning a sport and being on a high school team can give you more of a well-rounded student look. Not only that but learning sports plus having good grades is very beneficial for when I need to look at colleges and the different types of scholarships. For this project I practiced hard and was very eager to learn new skills and have an understanding of soccer. I am very impressed of how much I have gotten done as means to skill. ...Competitive sports has been controversial subject in schools lately. Despite this, sports has shown to provide many benefits for students. Athletics has also had a role in the school environment for a very long time. School sports have been shown to develop skills that prove important in life and creates a sense of pride for students. Another benefit seen in studies was the improvement of student academics. Overall, competitive sports should remain in school systems. High school athletics have led to the growth of mental and physical skills. This varies from instilling life lessons, to learning how to stay in shape and keeping up with physical fitness. One former NFL player, Donté Stallworth, tells of the impact sports made on his life “As I move beyond my NFL career, I incorporate much of what coach Al taught me as a teenage boy - teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, accountability- into other aspects of my life” (Stallworth) This excerpt shows that all of these favorable traits were learned during school sports, and that he was able to put them into play throughout his life. All in all, sports lead to the progression of important traits....

...assistance. Most of the time, people speak about Title IX when referring to gender equality in college sports, but it actually covers a wider range of sexual discrimination. In the NCAA, the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) would analyze a university’s decision to eliminate one of their team sports. They would determine if that school was compliant with Title IX. Some schools cite financial reasons for taking sports out, but that alone is not enough for the OCR. “Title IX requires that the percentage of male/female student-athletes should closely represent the student body population at the university and that the proportion of student aid should closely resemble the participating male/female ratio” (Cranney, 2013). Therefore, the athletic department’s male to female ratio has to be similar to the student body’s ratio as well. One of the reasons that Temple University took away seven of their sports was to balance their athletic department’s male/female ratio, and it would also save the school between $3 to $3.5 million yearly (Cranney, 2013). If the ratio at the athletic department of a school is acceptable, they would have to really show that keeping up certain sports is hurting the school significantly. For the OCR, they will find every reason for a school not to drop any of their sports, so a school has to show strong evidence. Reference Cranney, Joey. (2013, December 6). University to eliminate seven intercollegiate sports. Retrieved from http://temple-news.co...
