...CONFIDENTIAL MEDIATION MEMORANDUM INTRODUCTION PARAGRAPH/CASE HISTORY As of right now Cady Heron is trying to destroy Regina George. Cady is constantly trying to find ways to cause a disruption in Regina's’ life. There has been no court action and the most confrontation that has been done was the mandatory all girls meeting in the gym, after the distribution of the “Burn Book”. This meeting provided a place for all the girls a safe place to say what they were feeling. Also to address any concerns towards this ”Burn Book”. BACKGROUND In high school Regina became best friends with Gretchen Weiners who knows everyone and everything and Karen Smith, a stereotypical "dumb blonde."(aka: me) She was dating Aaron Samuels, but left him for Shane Omen. Regina basically has it all at this point. When the new girl Cady Heron arrived, Regina apparently thought she was pretty, except for her clothes and lack of makeup, and invited her to sit down with her and her friends. Cady Heron is the 16 year old homeschooled girl. Her parents are anthropologists who were doing research somewhere in Africa for all of Cady’s childhood. When one of her parents is offered a high paying job back in the United States, they decide that Cady needs to acclimate herself socially with other girls her own age. Cady enters public school as a nobody, and is taken under the wing of artsy Janis Ian and Damien (last name unknown). They show her the ropes of high school and map of where the different cliques...

...To what extent was the revolt in the Netherlands caused by the actions and attitudes of Philip II? By 1576, Phillips religious intolerance and financial mismanagement can be seen as a major cause of the outbreak of three revolts within the Netherlands. In 1566, 1572 and 1576 the Netherlanders decided that it was time to bear arms agaised their ever absent monarch, Phillip II. The increasing spanish centralisation and subsequent decline of particularism turned the people against spanish control. However we must asses weather the decline of the traditional aristocracy, caused by a rising mercantile class was a factor that led to the rebellion. The growing dissatisfaction of the grandees certainly helped to provide leadership, however the social and economic deprivation of the lower classes, caused by Phillip II's stubborn religious policies, gave the peasants due cause to rise up. Throughout he's reign Phillip constantly made poor appointments in the Netherlands. When he made Margaret of Parma, his half sister, regent he refused to give her any actual power in the area. This made her a completely useless figure head. After her resignation Philip replaced her with the Duke of Alva. Philip said "I remit all power to you", this would therefore allow Alva to have an impact on the netherlands, however this proved to be a very negative impact. Alva introduces the 10th and 100th penny taxation which proved extremely unpopular and alienated the nation against Alva and therefore philip...

...Historically by way of the Constitution, the basis or purpose for structure of the United States Government was to allow maintenance of security or order for society. By this act alone the government is able to protect its people from violence at the hands of foreign armies and criminals. It is the authority of every government to enforce rules and control by means of their, armed forces and the police. Without this authority the United States would not be able to keep peace so to speak. In Seventeen Eighty Seven, our founding fathers( the farmers of the land) called for the forming of a Constitutional Convention for the sole purpose of building a stronger national government. ...The war kicked off at the battle of Lexington and Concord in April of seventeen seventy-five. On the eighteenth of the month, Hundreds of British troops marched in the night from Boston to Concord. Their mission was to seize a weapons stash, however their plan was foiled when notoriously Paul Revere sounded the alarm allowing the Patriots to put up a fight. Soon the British would retreat from taking on too much fire power, kicking off the Revolutionary War. Throughout the war Britain would use their naval advantage to capture cities on the coast line. However they found it difficult to take control of the country side containing ninety percent of the colonies population, mainly because of their under sized land army. The colonies however would have never had a chance if they did not get help from France. France had secretly been aiding the colonies throughout the start of the war because of their long lasting rivalry, but never officially joined the war until after the battle of Saratoga because the British had been setting the tone of the war. However the battle of Saratoga started the turning point of the war. In seventeen seventy-seven British general Howe moved his troops southward in New York, trying to cut off troops coming from Washington. This however proved to be a crucial mistake, leaving the British army exposed. After the colonies...

...The article “Takoma Park 16-year-old savors his history making moment at the polls” by Annys Shin, talks about how the Takoma City Council granted the right for 16 and 17 year olds to vote in municipal elections. This is a bad idea to let sixteen and seventeen years olds vote, they should wait till they are eighteen if they really want to vote. At the age of eighteen seems like a long time but it’s what’s best. In my opinion I believe sixteen and seventeen years old shouldn’t be allowed to vote just yet until they turn eighteen since that’s allowed then. Sixteen and seventeen years old shouldn't vote until they are eighteen. The article “Takoma Park 16-year-old savors his history making moment at the polls” by Annys Shin explains why...

...It starts in seventeen fifty-four with the publishing of colonial author and inventor, Benjamin Franklin’s “Join or Die” cartoon in the Pennsylvania Gazette. The publication is in response to the exposition of the French and Indian War which will have a major impact on the revolution. His caricature of a snake severed into eight separate pieces above the label, “Join or Die,” symbolizes the colonists need to unite with one another before they all “die.” After the English win this war, mainland Britain is in a financial crisis which they impose on their colonies in the form of taxes. These taxes include, but are not limited to, the Stamp Act which taxes newspapers, pamphlets, and other large documents, Townshend Act which taxes tea, paint, and other imported items, and a group of taxes called the Intolerable Acts which stricken the colonists power to rule themselves. After years of providing reconciliation and amnesty to the monarch, the colonists make a major leap to revolution. The rebels form an army of colonial minutemen who are armed countrymen willing to fight at a minute’s notice. This comes in handy when colonist Paul Revere has a midnight ride to gather the minutemen when he receives a warning of British redcoats (military men.) The war begins in seventeen seventy-five with the famous shot heard around the world that takes place in Concord, Massachusetts. In January of...

...Later on, Tom gives up all hope and tries to escape from prison, he gets shot seventeen times, which was unnecessary and showed fear and hate from the white guards. Based on an analysis of “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, the effects of racial discrimination are violence and biased judgment. One negative effect of racial discrimination towards African Americans is violence. A scene that demonstrates this affects in “ To Kill a Mockingbird” is the scene where Tom Robinson tries to escape from the prison and gets shot seventeen times from the guards. Tom was proven innocent, however, the jury and judge still declare that he is guilty. Tom abandons all hope and tries to escape by scaling the fence. “They fired a few shots in the air, then to kill. {...} Seventeen bullet holes in him. They didn’t have to shoot him that much.(Lee, 315)” The guards warned Tom before shooting him and he didn’t care and continues to climb. It’s interesting because if he wasn’t crippled in his left arm he would escaped. The violence is shown through that he was shot seventeen times. Seventeen shots for anyone, much less a...

...Law Enforcement K-9 Support CJ 292: Methods of Criminal Justice Research Michigan State University The employment of canines in law enforcement has increased in popularity around the country since departments have been stipulated to operate with less deadly uses of force (Smith, 2000). In the court cases Robinette vs. Barnes and Matthew vs. Jones, it was decreed that “dogs often can help prevent officers from having to resort to, or be subjected to, such force …” A dog is considered less than deadly force, yet still manages to get the job done efficiently. The usage of the animals offer critical skills we need, beyond those of humans, to solve problems and keep communities safe. The history of canines partnering with law enforcement dates back as far as two thousand years ago. Although they have sprung up in some very populous metropolitan areas, usage across the country in the twentieth century was minimal (National Law Enforcement Museum, 2012). The need for patrol dogs snowballed after San Diego officers shot twenty two suspects after an altercation in 1990. After twelve of the suspects died, the public was outraged and demanded a change in policy (Smith, 2000). Many departments’ K-9s are sworn in as officers. Each dog is furnished with its own, official, police badge. As a sworn officer, the dog is also equipped with a bullet proof vest. Besides keeping the community safe, the dog is also capable of protecting the officer in dangerous situations. People...
