...Teen Sex As a parent of a teenager, I find some of the information on teen sex frightening. It is a subject I read, talk, and learn as much about as I can. The information I gather will help me filter fact from fiction. I want that knowledge to help my teenager thrive in this difficult time. In reading about this problem, I have learned that there are many sources of information. This information helps understand the scope of the problem, the consequences on youth, and the effects on families, schools and the community. It also explains the relationship between sex and other at risk behaviors and, thankfully, ideas on ways to prevent it or at least intervene if it has already happened. When I read the 2005 Wisconsin Youth Risk Behavior Survey Executive Summary and found that 40 percent of teens surveyed have already had sex, I was astonished (Wisconsin). The survey is a questionnaire that 2,389 students in 52 public high schools completed anonymously. Although the statistics are frightening, the reality is that many more teens are experimenting with sex. One way they are experimenting is with oral sex. In fact, oral sex is more common than intercourse. “Oral sex is often viewed so casually that it needn’t even occur within the confines of a relationship…it can happen at parties, possibly with multiple partners” (“Teens” 1). Donna Jolley, a psychotherapist who treats families, agrees that oral sex among teens is on the...

Premarital sex is usually the cause of sexually transmitted diseases, teen pregnancy, and deep, emotions of regret. STDS FLORISH Sexually transmitted diseases flourish in a society of premarital sex, where teens have many sex partners. A result of this is STD's becoming more abundant among the population. One reason for the plague of STD's is the misuse of contraceptives by teens. Many teens believe that condoms, or the pill prohibit the spread of herpes, AIDS, or other diseases, but they do not stop the spread, and no where do the products state that they do stop the spread of STDs. Three million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases among teens are reported each year. Many teens that believe nothing is wrong in committing premarital sex have intercourse with many different teens through the ages of 15 and 19, and increase the chance of spreading sexually transmitted diseases each time. With sexual intercourse becoming more popular to high school students, and its acceptance among the public, even more teens are having sex now, to the point...

Being a single mother, she has no one to help. She ask herself, how did this happen? That one night of passion, was it worth it. Sure, it felt great when she did it, and she trusted the person she was with that one night. That does not always mean that it is the right thing to do. Well everyone is doing it! Like Mom always says, “If everyone jumped off a cliff would you do it to?” Changing her beliefs on pre-marital sex and unprotected sex, because the arguments made based upon fact and other opinions and realities. ...Are Teens Influenced By Media To Have More Sex Or Have Sex At An Earlier Age? Most successful human relationships are based on respect and affection. It is important to encourage these types of principles to teenagers. Unfortunately, teenagers often are exposed to peer pressure, sexual media context and become sexually active before understanding the emotional bases of human sexuality. Media in general has failed one the main principle of relationships. A great deal of shows in TV programs suggests that sexuality comes from emotional intimacy, as something glamorous, instinctive, and what is more dangerous a risk free lifestyle. Teens are exposed to learn about sex on different types of social experiences since their information comes from participation and observation from other people; sadly much of this information turns out to be false and negative. Moreover, media has been too indifferent to the image transmitted in connection to sex and its consequences. Approximately 85% of all sex television shows are between couples who are not married or have no commitment to each other. Moreover, teens are exposed to a sexual world where violence abounds and where love and commitment are conspicuous by their absence. Instead of exploring into a more complex issue of human intimacy, TV shows are satisfied showing couples having sex instead of the intimacy of making love. Another factor that contributes to access of sexual information from the media is limited responsibility...

...Professor Eidson English 1101 April 25, 2013 Sex Education in Schools Sex education is a broad term used to describe education about human sexual activity, sexual reproduction, sexual intercourse, and other aspects of human sexual behavior. Although some form of sex education is part of the curriculum at many schools, it remains a controversial issue in several states. Ignorance regarding sexual matters has resulted in 65 percent of all teens having sex before their senior year and 9.1 million of the 19 million Americans who get an STD in a year are teenagers or between the ages of 15 and 24 (“Teen Sex Statistics”). There is no better place than in a biology class or a special sex education class to inform children of the importance of having planned families; consequently, these classes can reduce teenage pregnancies and much physical suffering caused by AIDS or other serious sexually transmitted diseases. It should never be left to parents because, in many cases, they cannot properly inform their children on the subject of sex education. Sex education must be taught in schools because it will help to prevent STDs from being transmitted, especially among teens, it will help prevent teenage pregnancy, and will help prevent pre-mature sex, which can damage the body from an early stage in life. Sex education does not only talk about sex. It also teaches about reproduction and sexual health. A lot of parents do not support the fact that sex education should be taught in schools, but...

...Sexuality of the Teen and Young Adult Tomekia Brewer Strayer University Sociology 100 Professor Tasha Anderson January 28, 2012 Sexuality of the Teen and Young Adult 1 Sexuality of the Teen and Young Adult As parents and adults, it is our duty to help our teens and young adults develop into smart, sexual beings, which is very important to their future happiness. The mystery about sex is that it so interesting, such a power for good, but can be very dangerous for young people if they are on the wrong track. Sex education in schools continues to have the debates of practicing abstinence and practicing safe sex. Doctors say that what is missing is the need to focus on love and sexual intimacy which play a big role in the human life. If we look at what today's teens are doing, it is enough to make parents weep and Safe-sex educators recognize that there is a greater need for condoms. The Guttmacher Institute reported recently that more than 75 percent of teens have had sex by the time they are 19 years old. Some 25 percent of virgins over 15 have had oral sex; of those who've had intercourse, almost all have also engaged in oral sex and 11 percent in anal sex. Of kids under the age of 15, about 14 percent have had sexual intercourse, and a quarter of teenagers have had at least one sexually transmitted disease. In fact, young people account...

...Should the early sex education be taught in schools or not? Discuss In recent years, the number of pregnancies and the sexual transmitted infections which are experienced by the teens has unpredictably increased. The sex education can be identified as the process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and beliefs about sex, sexual identity, relationships and intimacy, and the teens refers to those whose age is between 12 and 20. In whether or not the early sex education should be taught in schools a number of arguments, both for and against, need to be examined. These arguments include that sex education decreases the teenage pregnancy and sexual transmitted diseases. Comprehensive sex education promotes healthy behavior. Sex education materials contain offensive content and induce youth to attempt initiated sex. Firstly, the sex education reduces the incidence of underage pregnancy and the spread of transmitted diseases. With regard to the outcomes of the sexual behaviors, it is clearly discovered that the teenage pregnancy and the sexual transmitted diseases are the most serious effects of teen sex. According to Klein, each year, in United State, teens experience as many as 850,000 pregnancies, and youth under age 25 experience about 9.1 million sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Meanwhile, Klein states that by age 18, 70 percent of American females and 62 percent of American males have initiated sex. Thus, comprehensive sex education advocates believe that...

...1364 Babies Having Babies Although the rate of teen pregnancies in the United States has declined in recent years, it remains the highest of any developed country. According to an article in cdc.gov, “In 2011, a total of 329,797 babies were born to women aged 15-19 years, for a live birth rate of 31.3 per 1,000 women in this age group. This is a record low for U.S. teens in this age group, and a drop of 8% from 2010” (“About Teen Pregnancy”). While the rates have declined, the stigma that surrounds the problem has not. Researchers have not been able to provide an explanation as to why the rate has dropped. Many parents, politicians, and researchers disagree about the significance and the effects of this issue. Some believe teen pregnancy is a small indicator of society’s prominent predicaments; others argue that it maintains those crises. Teen pregnancy has a significant short-term and long-term impact on the American economy and not only affects teens, but also the nation. Teen pregnancies have financial ramifications that affect the whole country. An article in Public Health Reports states, “Giving birth in the teen years can limit one’s social and financial well-being” (Penman-Aguilar). Many believe that a link exists between the high teen pregnancy rates and poverty in the U.S. The United States spends billions every year on sex education programs and on helping the majority of teen mothers by federal aid. Many of these teen mothers frequently do not finish their high school...

...Jeremy Fannon English 081 December 11, 2014 Teen Pregnancy Prevention: Easy as One, Two, Three “If adolescent pregnancy prevention is to become a priority, then our strategy, as advocates, must contain two key elements: civic engagement and education”. The rate of teen pregnancy is growing dramatically because there are so many uneducated teens and they are careless of the consequences that come with unprotected sex. Teens do not think about the responsibility and problems that come with having a child. Parents can also play a role on why teen pregnancy has become more common these days. There are many ways to prevent teen pregnancy we just have to educate and make birth control options easily accessible to teens. Teen pregnancy can be prevented we just have to make an effort. Teens do not have the money to buy contraceptives to prevent pregnancy. Condoms and all types of birth control should be free and easily accessible to teens. We can raise taxes and the money raised from taxes can be used to provide free condoms at high schools, pharmacies, doctor’s offices, and liquor stores. Many hardworking tax payers may argue that they shouldn’t have to pay more taxes to help irresponsible teens but it’s better to pay less taxes on providing free contraceptives, than paying more taxes on supporting these teen parents that will most likely need government assistance which will be coming out of tax payers pockets. “Teen childbearing costs U.S. taxpayers billions of dollars...

...2014 Preventing Teen Pregnancy Sexuality is a huge, broad topic. When breaking it all down, one thing stands out to me: teen pregnancy. This topic is one of major debate and draws the attention of several governments worldwide to help prevent a problematic trend. While there are several agencies in the United States designed to educate and attempt to lower the teen pregnancy rate, the United States still maintains one of the highest rates in the world. I believe that while we in the United States try to lower this rate, we are not doing enough to educate and better inform the youth. We need to invest in comprehensive sex education and change the messages were sending teens through the media. I’m from an area where teen pregnancy is a norm. It frightens me knowing that my two younger sisters may become part of a tragic statistic. People blow off teen pregnancy like it is not a big deal, but we need to fix the “solutions” that our government has set out. We have several programs currently available to youth in the United States one of which is sex education. However the media play the most negative role in offsetting the work we as a society perform to help our teens be healthy and not fall into a trap. While sexuality is completely natural and healthy, teens are still not fully aware of some of the consequences that come with teen sex. The first thing I see that needs to be changed is our sex education system. The United States has two major forms of sex education: abstinence...

...Teen Pregnancy Sabrina Marbury COM 172 June 19, 2012 Jessie Creech Teen Pregnancy In the United States more than one million teenage girls become pregnant every year (Plotnick, 1997). Only 13% of those pregnancies are intended (Plotnick, 1997). Teen Pregnancy has been defined as a teenaged or under aged girl becoming pregnant. Getting pregnant as a teenager gives her a higher risk of running into social aspects and economical issues that surround today’s teenage parents. Teens today are not educated the way they should be on safe sex or teen pregnancy. There are some consequences, big decisions, and great responsibilities a teen has to face once she is pregnant. Most girls seem not to care about being pregnant and overlook the matter that they are carrying a human being. Having a baby at a young age affects the life of the teen as well as the life of the child. Teen pregnancy has been a major concern in society today because of the lack of education and guidance teens have about safe sex and also the effects it brings upon the child and the mother. One main cause of teen pregnancy is the lack of education ("Lack of Parental Guidance," 2004). The lack of education on safe sex is a cause of teenage pregnancy, whether it is from parents, school, or a friend ("Lack of Parental Guidance," 2004). Teenagers with less education about sex and teen pregnancy are more likely to have an unintended pregnancy. Some teenagers chose not to discuss sex with parents because they feel...
