Dear Editor,
According to some university in Hong Kong which admit a multitude of students who showed exceptional talent in some non – academic areas , although they did not meet normal university entry requirements . Now , I am going to express my opinion about this policy .
First of all , there are some merits of this policy . The first advantage of this policy is that we can unleash students’ respective potentials to the fullest . As we know , these students are judged in terms of their non – academic achievement , such as sports music the performing arts and community service .In the face of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education ,Students can only blindly accepting the Spoon – Feeding Education and they can’t develop their personal interest . Therefore , this policy helps nurture different top – notch talents which can avoid student bring stifled by all – round – development and can still unleash their respective potentials to the fullest . Secondly , the other advantage of this policy is that we can facilitate specialized education . In fact , not every students can reap a brilliant harvest in every subject . Most of them are only talented in some non – academic subjects . Consequently , this policy will undoubtedly help these students to have another access to university programs and it can facilitate specialized education in Hong Kong . After discussing the merits generated by this admission policy , I would like to move on to the demits which have received heavy public criticism .
The disadvantage of this policy is that it will against elitism . In Hong Kong , the government recommends elitism education . The purpose is to train some versatile pillars . But this admission policy goal is to promote specialized education . It is because it helps students to cherish their abilities in some non – academic areas . Also , this policy is for students to develop their personal interest , not only to cultivate students‘ academic achievement .
All in all , this policy has advantages and disadvantage , so the university should consult enough before implement this policy . I hope my solution will useful .
Yours faithfully ,
Tammy Liu.
