Whilst watching ‘The Conformist” the one thing that really struck me was the way the film was shot. Many of Sharff’s elements are combined including, cinesthetic movement, slow disclosure and separation. These elements are introduced straight away in the opening scene and set up the structure of the film. From the beginning, the use of these elements keeps the audience interested. In the opening scene there are so many questions that need to be answered, which keeps us guessing, but at the same time they are paid off later on so we don’t get confused. The constant guessing involves us in the experience rather than simply just observing.
