The article is about the life experience of Shawnice Singletary from Northeast Baltimore. She got shot at by a stranger and as a result got a quadriplegia paralysis where she could only function with the remaining live nerves from her neck upwards. Her shooter was never found but still she never gave up in wanting an improved quality of life for herself (Sentementes, 2000). Good Samaritans came to her rescue in the due process and enabled her to acquire computerized devices and technologies that she could control using her eyes. The infrared cameras within the digital computers could sync her voice and enable her to communicate with friends and significant others as well with the clinicians who were taking care of her at the facility (Sentementes, 2000). He emphasizes the degree of insecurity that is seen at Northeast Baltimore. There are so many guns at the hands of the public to the extent that even children use the deadly weapon in playing games (Sentementes, 2000). Shawnice Singletary is shot by a stranger without knowing the reason and the investigative department are still defeated to unravel the misery behind the shooting because they are simple incapable. Gus also emphasizes on the contribution of technological inventions and innovations towards advancing the health system. Shawnice is able to do certain things that would never be possible a decade or two ago if anyone was in her very situation. Gus gives thumbs up for the computers that were able to facilitate Shawnice Singletary’s communication in spite of her comatose status. Nevertheless, the success of what is seen in Gus article was possible by first, Shawnice Singletary accepting her new situation and secondly not giving up in the struggle to improve the quality of her life even after going through the unavoidable
