Silly Bandz: Are they affecting your children? What is a “Silly Band”?
A silly band is an elastic band which is made up of silicon (non-toxic) and dye. Not a lot for something that’s sweeping the nation is it? No. They come in many different styles and shapes. They were first sold online in 2008,they became popular that same year on the east coast of the united states. Silly bandz are sold in over 8,000 retail outlets in the US. Silly bandz were created as not only a fashion trend but for educational purposes. The bandz help teach very important life lessons such as trading, and knowing when enough is enough, but to some children enough is never enough.
Is your child changing?
After this sweep of bandz, came into action children all across the nation began turning into greedy, self absorbed brats. Silly bandz are meant to be traded, but some children are keeping them and trying to get more and more, to “out do” everyone else. Parents all around the world are noticing these changes with their children, such as: greediness, the number of friends decreasing, parent calls from teachers, ect.

Why is my child getting in trouble for having silly bandz?!?
Most children use theyre bandz for bad things, most schools around the nation have banned silly bandz. Even our very own bath county middle school, I asked one of the eight graders that attend school theyre, and here what he said “Having silly bandz is not allowed here because, we were using them as sling shots, and shooting v-darts with them” “one boy even shot a silly band at a teacher, and hit her in the face” silly bandz are being used for different purposes’s but not good ones, for example, students are shooting v-darts, theyre actually flicking other students putting scars/welps on others arms. All of these actions are coming from the childs bad attitudes resulting from having silly bandz.

Should I take sillybandz away from my child completely?
I would not recommend cutting the child completely off of the bandz. I would start with just allowing them too wear a couple at a time and when they get home make sure they still have them. Also STOP supplying them, when you buy more silly bandz your just making the problem bigger.

Recycling Proposal

...Alex Nguyen Ms. Gaspers Honors English 3-2-15 The Real World of Recycling Imagine a world where the water supply, ocean vitality, and temperate eco system have all lost their genetic diversity because we taint their home with our waste. Imagine if Earth’s natural resources were diminished because we couldn’t do one simple task. What if I told you, you could do something as simple as putting paper, bottles, jugs, and cardboard into a blue bin called a recycling bin. What if I told you that “consumers recycle only one of every five plastic drink bottles used” (Barnes 1). A culture of littering was nearly accepted by older generations. Today, Americans represent “5% of the world’s population but generates 30% of the world’s garbage” (UtahRecycles 1). This shows that we talk way more than we actually show in the U.S. I believe that the U.S Government should enforce recycling classes so that students will be more educated and think twice when they recycle because people feel that recycling is optional and not needed. It would inform you about what to recycle, how to recycle, and what not to do. Oregon State University has already begun online classes for students interested in recycling. Classes would be required just like taking a health class and enforced to 6th graders and only have to be for a semester because just like taking care of our own bodies, we need to take care of the Earth’s body. First, taking a recycling class can show you that recycling requires minimal...
