On the topic regarding moral obligation to assist the less fortunate, Jan Narveson and Peter Singer argue two very different perspectives. In his work, Feeding the Hungry, Narveson contrasts justice and charity. From his point of view, justice could be enforced but charity cannot. He insists that it is moral for us to be forced into acting justly, but never for us to be forced to being charitable. In the Singer Solution to World Poverty, Singer argues that we have an extensive obligation to give to the less fortunate.
