...SINGLE WINDOW INDIA’S REAL ESTATE • One unfortunate major bottleneck in the growth of real estate industry is the inadequate and under-equipped government/regulatory agencies with overlapping regulatory jurisdiction ‘approving´ Plans. • Efficient regulation starts with a uniform building code and its uniform implementation. Forty-three economies globally have adopted uniform construction rules. Generally, a central authority makes the rules and local authorities implement them. When regulations are not organized and not clearly applied, it leads to confusion for builders and authorities about how to proceed. This often leads to delays and uncertainty • The deteriorating housing affordability is the result of more restrictive land use regulations adopted by governments with insufficient attention to economic fundamentals. It is estimated that out of every Indian rupee invested in housing, Re 0.78 is added to the national GDP. Nevertheless, and in spite of considerable growth, the housing sector remains small and confined to the upper-income population groups. Also, there has been a considerable increase in the value of housing because of restrictive land use regulation, which is a cause of great Financial Crisis. The talk of affordable housing is meaningless if the authorities continue to neglect these issues which are a major contributor to the high real estate prices WHAT IS SINGLE WINDOW? • Single Window Clearances is a One Stop Shop for quick processing and issue...

...and other potential risks. When it comes to prison facilities, there are specific purposes of classification and specific ways of how classification systems are used to place prisoners. In the State of Montana, the primary or main purpose of the system of classification in the correctional system is too basically use a method to figure out whether or not which proper encoding and safekeeping step is right for every single convict. A secondary purpose of the classification process in the State of Montana is to allow the prisoners a chance to change their lives around in a positive way. By allowing this opportunity, it will instill protection, safety, and security of other inmates, correctional officers, and the society. The classification system has a goal. The goal is to have order within the correctional facilities and to maintain proper security and safety to everyone that are in contact with offenders. In order for this goal to be achieved, all inmates has to be classified right after the admission process. After the admission process, the inmates are directed and given the appropriate housing quarters. This will be based upon the offender’s classification status all within a time frame of twenty-four hours. There are many ways of how the classification systems are used to categorize offenders. Classification system procedures are used to categorize prisoners in several different ways such as; special needs, age, escape...

...Chapter 1 INTRODUCTION Background of the Study Managing correctional population is a challenging and expensive task for state and local jurisdictions. In recent years, methods of securities were implemented to secure the inmates and to lessen the cases of escapes. These help improve the efficiency and effectiveness of correctional management. According to Lukens, there was a problem in monitoring the inmates during the headcount procedure as the inmates portray the appearance of a sleeping person in cell beds. To resolve this dilemma, they required all the inmates to stand in order in specific area at the same time during headcounts. It was observed that the time it takes to finish this procedure was impractical so they switch to a procedure of checking each inmate in their individual cells (Preventing Prison Escapes and Responding to Security Audits, 2000). Traditional way of monitoring the inmates was considered as impractical as it only applies on situational instances. Wortley (2002) said, that one of possible reasons why prisoners were able to escape prisons is the way these traditional approaches were implemented. Two inmates of the Manila City Jail escaped and had disarmed ten officers in their wake. Due to the heavy rain, they had gone unnoticed by the roving guard on duty that night (Andrade, 2012). In 2002, 17 inmates at BJMP Tagum City Jail escaped in broad daylight. Outnumbering the personnel on duty during the headcount in the morning, the inmates took opportunity...

...Sexual assault within a correctional institution is something that most citizens who live freely outside of such facilities may think is merely a small inconvenience that few criminals may possibly experience while incarcerated within the prison system. However, this is an issue that has gained a great deal of attention from those within the facilities, and those who study the facilities as well. In the article “Responding to Incidents of Sexual Victimization in Correctional Institutions: Correctional Officer Perspectives”, written by Carrie L. Cook and Jodi Lane, sexual assault in correctional institutions and how it is responded to is studied from the perspective of the correctional officer. According to Cook & Lane (2017), “This study examines...

...Correctional Officers Experience The control exercised over offenders in a correctional environment is called custody. The custody levels are maximum, medium, to minimum they refer to the way prisons or units within prisons are classified. The three C’s of corrections are care, custody, and control that correctional officers learn in training. The correctional officers will present themselves as professional at all times. The officers will let the prisoners know we are here to keep safety and security within the prison walls. The prison having well-trained officers and well-orchestrated schedule for the officers to follow will help to better security within the prison. The officers will communicate with each other at all time they are in the prison own stress as it is. Inmates can pick up on the officer’s inability to focus on their job and use that. Correctional officers will have to keep work life and home life separated. How do you ensure professionalism among the corrections staff? Communities rely on federal and state prisons, county jails, and other correctional facilities to help ensure public safety by operating secure facilities. Correctional officials recognize that their work is a public service and that unethical behavior and /or misconduct erodes public confidence in these officials. It is for this reason that corrections departments across the country adopt and enforce codes of ethics and conduct for correctional officers and other employees whose job...

...Criminal Justice Trends Paper Dwight Blackshire September 9, 2013 CJA/484 Mr. James Herring Criminal Justice Trends Paper New philosophies to aid in the future progress of corrections are being developed as a result of past and current trends. The issues and concerns surrounding the corrections component of the criminal justice system are overcrowded prisons and their decreasing budget. If these issues and concerns are not address, they will continue to affect the effectiveness and future operations of corrections. Restorative and community justice programs are options being considered for the future of corrections as administrators, legislators, and activists debate philosophies to address these issues and concerns resulting from past and current trends. In the past, the national political climate favored the “get tough” approach against crime. It was believed that treatment programs could not reduce recidivism. Furthermore, it was also believed to keep the national crime rate low and protect the public, offenders of crime must be punished to deter crime. As a result, reforms such as truth-in-sentencing and three-strike legislation were implemented into the law. These...

...Prisons Comparison Paper Jose Salmeron CJ234 July 8, 2014 University of Phoenix Jail and Prisons Comparison Paper Jails and prisons they are all the same. Actually a jail and a prison are different in many ways. A jail is considered the most misunderstood segment of the correctional system. Out of all the correctional components in the in the United States, a jail is the oldest. Jail house individuals who have just been arrested, awaiting sentence, or have been sentenced to only a few months. Throughout the history of corrections, jails have had a major role. Like jails state and federal prisons have had their own history as well. Although jails, stated and federal prisons all hold criminals, there are some similarities and differences between the three. Today the population of the correctional have grown since the first institutions were established. The original reason for a jail was to detain offenders, who were awaiting trial. As history has shown the role of jails have changed throughout time. Jails are the most underrated component of our criminal justice system. The role a jail has within the correctional system, can be considered the most important. Jails are correctional facilities that operated locally. Meaning a jail is ran by a city or the county. A jail serves a variety of functions, and also hold a variety of offenders. Individuals awaiting trial, sentencing, or pending arraignment, are held in a jail. Violators of bail, probation, parole...

...the U.S. criminal justice system, when a person is arrested, the first place they are usually taken to is jail. From there, they see a judge and go through a court process. If further incarceration is needed, the individual is sentenced to serve time in either a county jail, state prison or federal prison. This paper will help discuss the history behind the jails and their use in addition to the history of state and federal prisons. While understanding the history of these three correctional facilities it will help to compare the different levels of security and how they work differently in each facility. A major problem in the United States, regarding the corrections system, is overcrowding. The effects of overcrowding are visible throughout the criminal justice system and there are different factors that influence the growth of jail/prison incarceration. The jails of the modern era can be traced back to the 1100’s in England. The first jail created was ordered built by King Henry II in 1166, and the English term gaol was used in place of the word jail (Seiter, 2011). Jails then were also used, as they are now, for the purpose of housing offenders that were waiting for trial, but also took in individuals who were homeless, poor or suffered from mental disabilities. Individuals that are incarcerated in the jails today get 3 meals a day, shelter from the outside environment, and a decent place to sleep. A famous reformer of the jail system is John Howard, who was once...

...of four female violent offenders attack other women. The incarceration rate for women is increasing at nearly twice the rate of men (Gater, 2005). Some risk factors contributing to the increase in criminal behavior among women include spousal abuse, substance abuse, and mental illness. The treatment of female offenders is becoming an increasingly important issue. Female offenders are often incarcerated in facilities designed for male treatment and rehabilitation needs. In the past, it was considered that male and female inmates had similar treatment needs, but as correctional administrators become aware of the increasing numbers and the differing needs of female offenders, they must re-evaluate the available treatment programs and begin to implement revisions to the management of program plans. It is now clear that differences in treatment between women and men within the judicial and correctional systems often have harmed rather than helped women (Harris 1998). In addition, Harris (1998) adds that evidence continues to grow of ways in which women’s experiences have been tied to their race and class, as well as the part of the country in which they lived and other personal characteristics. Research suggests that female offenders differ from male offenders on many factors relevant to rehabilitation and treatment planning. The focus of current research is why the population of female offenders is increasing drastically in comparison to the male population. The drastic...

...Jail and Prison Nicole Jones CJA234 July 30, 2012 Mitch Jessip Jail and Prison Jails hold only about one-tenth of all offenders under correctional supervision, yet admit approximately four times as many offenders each year as all other correctional components combined. Jails are often misunderstood, as the general public regularly confuses prisons and jails. We have all heard someone say something like, “For that crime, I hope the criminal spends years in jail,” although jails are not used to hold sentenced offenders for long terms of confinement. (Seiter, R. 2011). Jails are the watershed of the correctional system. The U.S. jail is the oldest of the correctional components, initiated well before prisons, probation, parole, or halfway houses. Yet the jail still has a diverse and difficult mission and role. Few offenders won’t pass through a jail as they enter the correctional system. Jails hold a variety of offenders (those who have been arrested, have been detained pending trial, have been sentenced to short terms of confinement for minor crimes, are awaiting transfer to another facility, and are being held administratively for a criminal justice agency). (Seiter, R. 2011). They may hold offenders arrested for public drunkenness or for multiple murders. Some jail systems are larger than all but a few state prison systems, and some are extremely small (four or five beds). Jails face unique issues, such as dealing with unknown offenders, managing detoxification and...

...of Corrections to place a $25 dollar fee on adults who want to visit inmates at any of the 15 state prison complexes. Originally the legislation attempted to impose a fee on all visitors, but it passed as limiting fees to adults 18 and over. In my opinion this legislation should not be imposed because it seems to be a hideous method for correctional facilities to try to pull in more income. When the correctional facilities were asked about the fee, they explained that the money generated by this new legislation will go towards repairing and maintaining the prisons. Even though I don’t believe this is the case, I will still argue that the cause is unnecessary. In a state like Arizona where there is a huge state budget deficit, it is not beneficial to find more ways of putting money into correctional facilities. In my mind our government already puts too many resources towards correctional facilities, and putting even more seems ridiculous. If visitors didn’t have to pay the fee, they would be stimulating the economy. The correctional facilities should not be allowed to do this simply because it does not need to be done. The correctional facilities should have to come up with money for repair and maintenance on their own instead of taking advantage of families which are already in a horrible situation The article goes on to explain that it is known that the best way to rehabilitate an inmate is to continue family contact while they are in jail. I can easily understand...

Churchyard,1,2 and Christopher J. Hoffmann1,3 1 The Aurum Institute, Johannesburg, South Africa; 2School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa; and 3Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland Downloaded from http://ofid.oxfordjournals.org/ by guest on January 9, 2015 Background. Tuberculosis (TB) prevalence is high in correctional facilities in southern Africa. With support from local South African nongovernmental organizations, the South African Department of Correctional Services initiated a program of systematically screening newly admitted and current inmates for symptoms followed by GeneXpert Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB)/rifampicin (Rif ) for microbiologic testing of symptomatic inmates. Methods. We conducted a program evaluation during a 5-month window describing program reach, effectiveness, adoption within the facilities, cost, and opportunities for sustainability. This evaluation included 4 facilities (2 large and 2 smaller) with a total daily census of 20 700 inmates. Results. During the 5-month evaluation window from May to September 2013, 7426 inmates were screened at the 4 facilities. This represents screening 87% of all new admits (the remaining new admits were screened by correctional staff only and are not included...
