From what I have learned from Sissela Bok and Annette Baier about lying and trust, how has this affected my perception of the effects of lying by politicians? It has affected my perspective in many ways regarding political leaders. Political leaders play a huge role in trust. For instance, the President of the United States Donald Trump has earned many of his supporters trust over this election, while also losing trust in many others because of the lies he told America. Sissela Bok’s view of lying is that the whole truth is unattainable, but we control whether to lie or speak honestly. While Annette Baier’s view of Trust is a vulnerable subject while it can be affected negatively and positively. A healthy trustworthy relationship consist within a friendly atmosphere and a pleasant thing. Over many of the election years, there has been political leaders who were deceitful and purposely voiced statements with intent to mislead their supporters to vote for them or to side with them on a particular issue. One recent political leader has been Donald Trump who has recently been elected the President of United States. One would think that with that role comes with Trust and being a Trustworthy person over all. Trump has made controversial statements that couldn’t be proved true which ultimately meant he was lying. Over time false pretenses effects a relationship, many of the supporters of Trump may not be to lineate with their trust after many lies continue to uproot. Bok believes that the whole truth is out of reach. Therefore you can get the truth that you can actually see and that you know, because we simply do not know everything there is to know.
