Social media have been a very important part in every individual life during this century. As users on social media have increased by 170 million during the last year, (Kit Smith, 2016) which clarifies the huge improvement since the beginning of social media. Firstly, social media first type spread out in 1997 with blogging. Woolley introduced a chat function afterwards. Later in 1999, Friends United was introduced to the internet world, where people can communicate together through massages and see pictures. After that, many websites came out among the years such as the most famous social media Facebook, which was launched by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004. Accordingly, social media interaction during the working time can improve the business reputation. Nowadays, social media became an important part in each business, workplace, office and organization. To illustrate more, social media allows employees to gain broader opportunities by contacting with a large number of businesses and workplaces through social media. Plus, it helps to communicate with a wider target audience, which improves the marketing campaigns of the workplace. For instance, the company can benefit from the workers with active social media interaction, by sharing the marketing campaigns materials and the experiences through their accounts. As a result, the boost of the workplace’s reputation can rise the revenue due to the financial aspect. As workers or managers might breach the workplace confidentiality through the usage of social media. For instance, some workers might tarnish the workplace image through social media platforms, when they face a misunderstanding or have a bad working day. Furthermore, workers may post confidential information about the workplace in the social media platforms such as Blog, Twitter and Facebook. However, privacy problems are not specifically linked to social media, it can happen by many different methods. As it is an ethical issue that related to the workers’ manners. Many times we may not even physically see the person we are talking to for days, months, or even years. The article I found was written by Susan Tardinico published in April 2012 for Forbes titled “Is Social Media Sabotaging Real Communication?” In reading the article, I saw many points I feel shows how actual interpersonal communication is being replaced with electronic communication, and how it can actually be harmful.
