Born in 1706, Ben Franklin was the fifteenth child and youngest son in a family of seventeen children. Being of modest means, the children were put to work as apprentices in various fields, at early ages. This gave Ben Franklin a strong work ethic and sense of responsibility early in life. Ben Franklin was sent to school at the age of eight, his father’s, Josiah, plan was for him to go into ministry. “… my father intending to devote me, as the tithe of his sons, to the service of the church” (7).
